This is one of the best video game adaptations I've ever seen, and on it's own it's a damn good horror film. I will die on this hill. The atmosphere is so oppressive, the demons are truly horrifying and while the plot has a couple of issues, they're easy to ignore. Hell even the real world events/ideologies they use were on point. The town itself is based on Centralia Pennsylvania, which was evacuated after the coal mine caught fire. It's still burning and will likely do so for 200+ more years. Alessa's demon is named Samael in the games. In Solomon's Demonology Samael is the king of Hell. His purpose is to punish the wicked. He's justice incarnate.

The Silent Hill saga is a saga that follows two set paths, Silent Hill 1, 3 and Origins center around the events that inspire this movie and its sequel, it has a lot of differences and lore that is not featured in the movie and would be an interesting experience. Silent Hill 2, 4-ish, Homecoming and Downpour all deepen the lore of the town, how it 'works' and other kind of experiences that different people would experience. It is a more 'personal' journey tailored around the protagonist's psychology and is much more metaphorical and unsettling, really cranking the horror aspects up to 100, conjuring much more disgusting, creepy, depressing and generally unpleasant imagery, perhaps among the most unsettling put in a videogame. Pretty much all these games present a hell of a journey in tortured minds and souls that pour all their dark contents into a physical environment, trying to find redemption.

This movie is pretty good if you are not into the lore of the videogames, cuz even tho it gets a lot of things right there are a lot others that make no sense at all, like pyramid head, he has nothing to do with Alessa, he's a manifestation of James (the protagonist from the second game)
@thedevastator19942 ай бұрын
To be honest, Pyramid Head makes sense, if you consider different symbolisms, even Silent Hill Homecoming's version. In SH2, where he first appears, it's a manifestation of the Protagonist's self-punishment ( among other things ), the movie's PH he embodies Alessa's thirst for vengeance, desire to punish all within the city that wronged her in the most gruesome and brutal ways and acts as the executioner of the sentence she placed on the people of Silent Hill. Homecoming's PH also embodies such desire on Alex's part, due to the Order subplot there, and self-punishment too for what his repressed memory hides of his past.

@thedevastator1994 Silent Hill Homecoming, just as the movies, was made by Americans and the original Team Silent had no involvement on it. Homecoming is a really bad example because they had to re-do the entire game just some months before it's release because it originally was a dark comedy action game lmao, devs just took as many of Silent Hill's popular content and shoved it into the game, if you compare Homecoming to Silent Hill 1 you'll realize there's nonsensical moments and removed parts of lore from the original game, it took and ripped the Silent Hill lore from the original 4 games.
@thedevastator19942 ай бұрын
@@middlefingercat69 I don't think it's a bad example, not as great as the originals but overall good: Town that looks like a place you DON'T want to live in: Check Enemy designs and deeper meanings: Check Past Trauma that drives the protagonist and shapes the world, with detail symbolizing it: Check Characters trying to come to terms with what they did and experienced, and multiple ending signifying wether that journey is successful or not: Check It's not as radical and impressive as Team Silent, but that's a whole different playground compared to western developers, so i do not really mind

Three remakes, but I always wanted a sequel. Closest would be Heinlein's "Puppet Masters".

why wouldn't you want to hear Chef sing?! 😕 that's by far the strangest response to SP I've ever heard....and as you've witnessed yourself, there's PLENTY to respond to wildly! Isaac Hayes (Chef's voice actor) is an amazing musician (BEFORE this show ever existed & up until his death in 2008. RIP) from Wikipedia: Isaac Lee Hayes Jr. (August 20, 1942 - August 10, 2008) was an American singer, songwriter, composer, and actor. He was one of the creative forces behind the Southern soul music label Stax Records,[4] serving as both an in-house songwriter and as a session musician and record producer, teaming with his partner David Porter during the mid-1960s. Hayes and Porter were inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2005 in recognition of writing scores of songs for themselves, the duo Sam & Dave, Carla Thomas, and others. In 2002, Hayes was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Every now and then certain movies come around that are above the heads of the generation that they were made for such as The Wizard of Oz, It's A Wonderful Life, and Invasion Of The Body Snatchers. Which is very perplexing to me. Shouldn't everyone realize greatest when it is thrush apon them?🧐
