Just recieved mine, but I have an antenna dilemma. I’d like to use this as a portable base station/ relay. I want to be able to put it on a rooftop, solar side up, for a few days or even a weeks then redeploy it to another location. I want maximum range but an attached antenna. Any recommendations?

Like this video..One comment: I was not aware: The external antenna connector is RP-SMA and will only connect with a RP-SMA antenna! You will need this barrel connector to use an SMA male antenna with the solar case. A .2 db loss!

With a cheap shortwave radio, and a usb sound card/cable, a recieve only js8call setup (which is all the bbs code supports) is really easy and cheap. Maybe you can show just that, as a "super easy addon" anyone could easily add to their BBS setup, no license needed, SHTF ready.

Just ran into a problem with one of my t-echo. Worked on a 5000 mile road trip. Now I find that it does not respond at all over the air or with BT. It was doing a blue-red-red flash for quite a while. At some point I got it to boot to flash mode and tried putting latest on, but it didn't seem to work. md5sum of the file and the current.uf2 after the flash did not match. Now it is just doing a red-red flash every 10 seconds or so. Anyone know? I've poured over all the things I can find with google which was close to zero.

I have one from the first batch and it is a great unit. However, I have noticed that the GPS is not working so I reached out to support and they have been awesome on responding and let me know that they've had a few users report that their GPS antennas are not working also. So they offered to send me a new antenna, so that I can replace it, or I can even send my unit back and they will replace it free, and test it for quality control then get it back up to me. So customer service has been phenomenal for me.

@@The_Comms_Channel That does make more sense, it slipped my mind that all wireless sigal is some variety of electromagnetic radiation. I just was curious because I think I remember it being illegal to transmit internet/network-styled signal over HAM, or some equivalent restriction.

This is so helpful! I've been a ham for many years but I'm just now giving aprs a try. I've got a setup working as an igate/digipeater but I've got one problem. I've checked and re-checked that I have the lat/long put in direwolf.conf correctly but when I look at aprs.fi the longitude is getting changed from W to E and so my station appears to be in China lol. I even tried using UTM coordinates instead of the lat/long and it still puts me in China, just a different part of China. Still haven't figured out what's going on there. Except for that, it's all working great and I appreciate all your videos, aprs and otherwise.

I'm considering putting some on top of the ranges (peaks in New Zealand), how lightening resilient do you think this would this be.... looks like a fair reasonable amount of plastic between the components & the pole you stick it on - could even pack more insulation on the arrangement.... thoughts??

The plastic on the enclosure is quite thick, but it will have an antenna on it so you'll have to take that into consideration. Not many radio systems can survive a direct strike.
