Great example why I never took to Jansher. A master at blocking his own short shots and appeals for everything when Eyles played a winning shot. Very little effort to reach the ball. Eyles had to win many points twice

Absolute disgrace, that there are "sports," like skateboarding, golf, equestrian and some other non sense like ribbon twirling but we can't make room for Squash. Those sports are also less accessible to majority of people; expensive to pick up and expensive to setup the necessary facilities! Almost seems racist how they support and favor some sports over others!

Since professional athletes were admitted in the Olympic Games the original spirit was lost.

As an ex pro I can tell you the problem is the incompetence of the International Squash Federation. A bunch of old men who want to feel important and get done nothing. We are talking about being part of Olympics now for 25 (!!!) years and it has not crossed anyone's mind that you need to lobby (pay money) the IOC comittee.
@worldsquashlibrary7032
@worldsquashlibrary7032 3 жыл бұрын
Christian, squash is a genuine sport that ticks the boxes of athleticism, structure, being worldwide, showcasing venues etc etc, but it is also small in terms of playing numbers, TV reach (e.g. a non-playing audience), broadcast income, age perception etc. That explains why it has been challenging to get a place on the programme, and why we have not succeeded so far. However, I know from personal experience watching the efforts over many years before being involved myself that the efforts of WSF, PSA, National Federations and individuals over the years have been nothing but full committment coupled with maximum effort, professionalism and funding-raising / spend too. You may criticise the lack of success, but talking of old men & doing nothing is plain wrong. As is bribery. You are looking in the wrong direction. We need to look at ourselves, how we can change to comply with what the IOC are looking for i.e. the 'cool' youth market. Skating, surfing, speed climbing etc this year, break-dancing for 2024 get in but not traditional great sports like ours that may deserve a place but are simply not fitting with the IPOC agenda at this point. (And if we change it will lead to re-generation of the sport generally). Andrew

@@christianwind8874 Good to have a discussion, so don't be sorry! While badminton got into the Olympics shortly after the 1984 LA Games turned them into a serious commercial propostion, we were still developing a mainstream product - and as you say, PSA and the promoters have done a superb job. Not least the arrival of SquashTV in 2010 that was a game changer in terms of bringing uniformly high standards of presentation. We would really have been ready for London 2012, but IOC found a way to exclude us then, as they have since. You and I have a different take on lobbying, which actually means networking, building relationships and pushing the case with key insiders at every turn - which is exactly what the old men who did nothing (and women too) have been doing so much of! While IOC has its own agenda as mentioned, I am afraid you really do not know the situation very well if you think that a sport that has struggled to raise a few hundred thousand Euros to bid, could add enough millions more to try that route - which may work for other groups but if you know the make-up of the IOC would know that it should never be tried. Anyway, we all hope that the WSF and PSA find a way of mounting a successful bid for 2028, as and when that becomes possible.
