Thankyou Geraldine. To understand others went through it too is such a valuable perspective to share, and this organization is so needed. I can’t imagine having such a resource to call on in my childhood. It would have changed my life. The secrets got heavier with every decade and now are impossible to lift.

As a child of an alcoholic father, my childhood and teenage were messed up. This leads to me and my brother becoming addicted to marijuana and alcohol. But I quit alcohol and drug in 2021. But the hole that my father left in my heart is big but each day I try my best to forgive him.

Thanks, these are some good reminders, there’s no question that increasing your mental clarity and boosting your drive, comes with quitting. Yes, there are many ways to kick the habit, Steffon Barkload's approach is what worked for me, best shortcut I go’ogled that took days without withdrawal.

Beautiful woman. What she said about secrets foisted on children by parents was spot on: I'm a performer (musician), but it's only at the age of nearly 50 that I can bear to be visible in my very awkward way. Most of the time I just want to hide. Ps. I wrote a whole poetry collection about my hypervigilance. It's uncanny how much I have in common with Geraldine even though alcohol didn't play a part in my childhood... I think it's the secrets thing.... Thank you both for this profound interview.

I found this so interesting. I am an adult ‘kid’ of an alcoholic parent. With my husband, I quietly struggle with down moods and instantly want to make things better. It was really interesting to hear you say this and will make me reflect on this.

My father’s drinking ruined every holiday. The police were at our house because of his behaviors. Car accidents, setting off fire works drunk driving. I hate holidays now because of the bad memories. Everything was about him. He ruined his career because of drinking. He stopped drinking late in life and ended up without a pension .
@marknagle582820 күн бұрын
Sounds familiar. My father was also a career alcoholic. Yes, every holiday was tough as a kid. I don't focus on the past but somehow those painful memories seen to resurface every holiday season. My father is no longer around, I've forgiven him for the pain he caused me. I never indulge in any drinking, he's taught me to be everything he was not. Sorry you had to go through it, my heart goes out to you.

Both my parents died from alcohol, my mum drowned in the bath and my dad died a horrendous death from all sorts of alcohol related diseases. It was just the worst. 😢 I was an alcoholic until my dad died and I stopped. There is help and you can do it. Stay strong.
