14 years later We now not only have the amazingly done G scale Percy What is too big for my house And the kinda crappy HO Percy who I have and who is also a fairly ok model And now the N scale Percy . Tiny fella … and am getting him for Christmas . He is built for n scale and has the capability to go on TINY model railways adorable However that’s still not everything As Lionel have made him for O scale . And has sounds . So he can be more like Percy Won’t be too long now until we get him for T gauge ! Or Z . Maybe considering we have all the other models of percy we may as well

I'm curious to see if there are improvements and even better quality in the upcoming NEW ULTIMATE SERIES "AS REAL AS IT GETS", CPKC SD70MAC - Limited Run... In any case, I have expressed my interest in it to my dealer and he has put me on the "interest list" and will contact me as soon as he has news, the price and you can order it. I've already told him that he can convert it to DCC straight away. Using a ZIMO MX699LSE decoder and suitable adapter board or then install an ESU XL LokSound 5 DCC. Possibly he should replace the USAT "Smoke Unit (Fan Driven)" with a piezo water vaporizer with fan drive.

Hi, what scale are these? They appear narrow gauge to me, and I thought most USA trains models were scaled down standard gauge. Nice video.

A beautiful locomotive, and from memory, about the end of the line for elaborate mass-produced American G gauge in this scale. The K27 had unfortunate timing coming out during a major financial recession/panic (2008-2009). Not a time for many people to splurge on an ultimate model train. I collect all kinds of toy trains, and in a way this K-27 reminds me a little of the extremely elaborate standard gauge tinplate trains released in 1929. Similar bad timing and resulting low sales ended that era, too. It feels to me like the "golden age" for mass-produced US narrow gauge equipment for G gauge track was approximately 1990-2009. I guess 20 years is a pretty good run, some amazing things were made by Bachmann and others; I bought and still own many of them. Funny story - when the first Big Haulers came out in the late 1980s they were a revelation to me: realistic G gauge American style trains I could actually afford! They were of course not as nice as this K-27 but they were big and neat and very affordable. I am speaking of the battery powered RC 4-6-0 with plastic track. When I brought home my first set I marveled at what they had accomplished and I daydreamed. I had always loved Shays. Wouldn't it be amazing if Bachmann made a plastic Shay in G gauge that was affordable? Just a dream; such an oddball locomotive, and so intricate. No one would mass-produce a Shay in G gauge plastic. And then...good lord! I few years later I was pre-ordering the first Bachmann Shay before they even rolled off the assembly line! Over the years I managed to acquire the Bachmann Climax, Heisler, and three truck Shay. I was disappointed they did not try for more mileage from the tooling by marketing a three truck Climax and Heisler. But it was a VERY good run of trains indeed...the only one that got away from me was their 2-6-6-2!

I had an HO variant of the Time Saver that I brought to train shows around S.E. Louisiana back in pre-COVID days. Adults were bemused, but children were absolutely fascinated by it and by being able to operate the trains themselves. Mine was set up to run on DC at a set speed. The loco was controlled by a DPDT center off spring-loaded toggle switch. Children were able to quickly figure out how to work the switch and control the loco. Even babes in arms seemed to grasp the concept by watching their older siblings, and seemed eager for a turn at the switch. Kids get told "Don't touch!" so often, and here was an opportunity to get their hands on the controls. Most of my rolling stock were inexpensive cars that could stand up to mishandling, but most of the kids were easy on the equipment. It was very rewarding to see how much they enjoyed it. Generally speaking, the sophistication of minimizing the number of moves or the time it took was beyond them. They just seemed to enjoy controlling the loco and moving the cars around. And i enjoyed watching them.

Thanks for producing & sharing this vid' ! It is presently/still embedded on their webpage for these units. Interesting how these are 70 Ton 3 bay hoppers ! ;-) When the AC 3 bay hoppers are only 2" longer (19" outside crnr to outside crnr, and branded as 100T !? Time for me to do some further research of these units on class one railways, not just our shortlines' 8-) "G-Gauge may not RULE, But it GROWS on Ya !! " djc'99

Personally prefer shiny metal wheels, since its easier to weather rust-like, and leaving a bit of shine on the flanges !

Unsolicited, but; And I use the AC H'nLs which have a embedded cutline on the shank to trim back the length which means the rolling stock runs closer together. My testing process for new pcs of rolling stock, is to put at least one new unit and another rolling stock unit, with the cut'back shanks on a sampler 'R1' curve track, possibly at your 'backshop', and if the corners don't tap each other on that tight curve, running will be fine ! Also during the cut-back process I trim up (omit the curve portion) flat/parallel the oversized simulated brake line aka hook unlock, so less chance of them catching on switch mechs' or 'set-in mid-rail' (magnet?) sound-enabling units !
