Thanks we always do our best to respect nature and the places we visit. We were very conscious to keep to the marked paths by following the signs, walkways or barriers.

I'm reading Marcher, une philosophie, from Frédéric Gros. Not the original one as I don't read French so well. I think you and Tom will like it.

Let me give you a suggestion: Nelson Mandela's Long Walk to Freedom. An autobiography. Amazing, realistic, inspirational. One of the greatest servant leaders of our times.

I read the Yellow Wall Paper a long long time ago. I remember it well and maybe I'll read it again. A room of one's own is one of my favourites, too. I remember you reading Harry Potter. I read them all. André loved them and still does. I haven't read Lord of the flies yet although I know it was inspired by a true event when a group of young guys got lost in the sea. Animal farm was/is a must. Still up to date. The killing of a mocking bird was read in 12 grade in my school. I bought it, lent it to a pupil and never got it back. Never read it. Time's come though. 😊

@@Roaming_with_carolina It was really nice. We checked in the campsite and went to see some sites before staying for the night, but unfortunately it started to snow a lot so we had to go back to the campsite a bit earlier than programmed as well. But as for the campsite in Egilsstadir, it was really cozy and had everything we needed. The people staying there were also very nice and the snowy ambience definetly made for a good introduction for North Iceland

Loved you video! I am planning to travel to Montenegro in May. Since it is a small country, is it like feasible to stay in one city and do day tours for all the other locations or something like that? We don't plan to rent a car and just wanna use public transport.
@Roaming_with_carolina
@Roaming_with_carolina 6 ай бұрын
Thank you very much 🫶 That’s pretty much what we did. We stayed in Herceg Novi (I would recommend it’s really pretty, and has a good bus station or Kotor but this can be a bit busy as it’s the main tourist destination) and we didn’t rent a car and only took the public buses. Some of the journeys are a bit long (4 hours plus) so I would recommend staying for 1 night in some of the towns further away. But it depends on how much you want to go into the mountains. If you plan to go into the mountains then it’s probably best to split into 2 places but if it’s just coastal towns these are pretty easy to get to from each other.

Bonjour! Thank you for an excellent video! Montpellier looks perfect for us. We are looking for a moderate summer climate area, with a plaza lifestyle, and near good healthcare (my wife has MS and is a cancer survivor). We walk, and ride, so public transportation is required. I am a retired American educator (but I still teach pt online). We helped a new school open in Lviv, then spent 6 weeks in Krakow; we're in Tallinn for a month before heading back to Oregon. My wife and I hope to visit France after the Olympics. We plan to sell our Portland condo and then move to France. We will rent so we can travel throughout Europe, and perhaps help Ukraine rebuild after the war ends. There are several significant advantages to living in France: climate, healthcare, culture, and infrastructure. Merci! Thanks again! Dean and Cindy.

Hi Dean! So sorry somehow I completely missed your comment. Thank you so much for your kind words. What an incredible story! I agree ... I think you'll find that most French cities are very well connected and will tick all of your boxes. We explored a lot from Montpellier with just public transport. You can also get the TGV (fast train) to other countries from most French cities making it a very good spot to explore Europe. If you haven't been to France yet I would recommend doing a short holiday and going to a few different cities as they all have very unique vibes.

@@Roaming_with_carolina Bonjour Carolina! Thank you for replying. Yes, we will visit several regions. Using trams and trains is our preferred mode of transportation. Being near a hospital and university is something we want (I'm a retired educator so I need a campus atmosphere once in a while). We thought about doing the Schengen hop but decided on getting a Long Stay Visa in France. I see that you two have visited several countries. Which one is your favorite and why? Merci. Dean & Cindy

@DeanRamser sounds great. I hope you find what you are looking for ☺️ that’s a tough question haha I really liked Montenegro - it is gorgeous but I probably wouldn’t live there as it’s very isolated. Loved northern Italy - Milan is one of my favourite cities that we’ve visited so far. I will also always recommend my home country - Portugal - for its history, food and good weather. But you mentioned you like a campus / university atmosphere so I highly recommend exploring England if you haven’t yet. Besides the obvious Cambridge and Oxford you’ll find that even some small towns have an academia vibe to it. I really liked Sheffield and I’m visiting York later this year too which is meant to be beautiful ☺️

@@Roaming_with_carolina Yes, Montenegro looks great and it's non-Schengen. But, we enjoy a bit more from our neighborhoods. We like the look of Northern Italy, but as an American the Early Retirement Visa requires a year-long rental agreement. Portugal looked attractive -weather, food, costs- until I read that the income disparity is causing problems for the native Portuguese. I visited Cambridge and London last year for a conference. Very exciting and a great place to visit. At 67YO our Vinn Diagram of needs/wants is different from our 20s 30s 40s and even 50s. We renovated homes, and now we want to walk and sip coffee. In my usual fashion, I am doing extensive research....thank you for sharing your impressions of these places. Are there any cities you would never visit again and why? Obrigado! Dean & Cindy

Gracias por la information. My favourite place on the island is 'Meloneras'. It's great for beach clubs, caberets, music, hotels etc. Many years ago Puerto Rico used be my favourite. Is there anywhere in Las Palmas that gives a similar vibe to Meloneras?
