Hummm. I just watched another video of a farmer in Virginia that does country hams. And he said let the ham hang for at least a year. Not 60 days! Or it won't cure enough. He did say store bought country hams are only done a few weeks, but they are injected with something to up the process.

Good video except we didn't get to see the finished product. And sat through it. Disappointed 🙂

Wow! This video pretty much shows the whole process/season of working Burley tobacco from planting in late Spring with the setter to grading and tobacco warehouse sales in late Summer and early Fall. A couple of days after school closed for the summer in the McDowell County Appalachian foothills, and we moved up into the Mitchell County Appalachian mountains at 13, I started following a 2 seater tobacco setter behind my uncle’s David Brown(bought out or merged with Case)tractor, with a bucket of tobacco plants 🌱 resetting in the rows where the setter had either missed or the tobacco plant wasn’t properly planted by the setter. Only differences from back in the day, being the deworming and suckering combined with the topping of the tobacco(before farmers started spraying for both suckers and tobacco worms 🐛)as well as more grades with “tying hands” and packing on tobacco baskets after grading the tobacco. My late uncle had actually started switching to the sprays and the baling of the graded tobacco instead of the tying hands and tobacco baskets just as I was getting out of it and started pumping gas at a convenience store(back when some stores still did) and then moving on to working at a textile mill after community college.

....Pork is a sad complete scam, when you look at how much work and time it takes to make pork taste like ham, if people did this to a chicken, duck or a turkey, they would never eat ham again....

Just in case anyone is wondering.... bleach is not a contamination hazard, it breaks down into salt, so its not going to hurt the ground water

Discouraging to see them using petrol to light the fire coupled with exhaust from the tractor. It makes a difference. Lighting a fire without petrol is just as easy, and he used way too much.

So if the ham is cured, do they have to be cooked? Is there any nitrate used to cure the ham?

No you can eat as is if cured. .. One trick that i do personally, and I will actually put slices in the in a pan with some water and boil out a little of the salt.. Then rinse, and fry with a little oil just to brown up a little..

Been buying whole leaf for a few years now, l actually really enjoy the time it takes to shred and roll it. This was very informative. Forensic analysis showed Egyptian mummies had tobacco in them. I think it's in our DNA to enjoy this stuff. Great video, thank you
