Hey, I am composing for an animated movie on KZbin I make about floating islands in the sky. I know which instruments to use and how to ochestrate it. I just can't come up with the actual melody! How can I find one?

I really enjoy watching you work out things like the transitions. I was watching and said, "that's how I do that, too." Then I realised I probably picked that up from watching your videos!

Great intro to sonata form. Thanks Ryan. I'm a little confused about the idea of precisely repeating the exposition before moving to the development, because at the end of the development you're in a different key to where you'd be about to restart. Does that work?

Very interesting. Is it possible to use a Chamber strings library. Tune one of the patches up in the sampler and down in the DAW and then have two sections? You could combine them together and spilt them when needed.
@RicoDerks
@RicoDerks 5 күн бұрын
Sure! This is how some violin2 patches are created anyway. I'd still recommend using 2 different libraries tho

@RicoDerks

Yes sure, most libraries i have go to niente already. And if i wanna do volume, instead of cc11, i use.... well: Volume fader! Way more precise, and automation is more easy to do there than 127 steps of cc11 to me.

Great video, Rico, thank you. I use CSS and the same approach. Until now, I've only lowered CC11 and not CC1. I will try that. If my 5 string sections are already written but I need an additional melody line for more fullness, I use this divisi method for the highest octave melody. They are quite piercing and even with lowered volume very noticable. Faking divise by layering does only work if the tone is quite similar. CSS and PSS work find in this regard I guess.

@@landorepicmusic Absolutely agree, this is true for most blending or layering in general.

Ok, thanks for your answers, they were very exhaustive, I also wanted to ask a question to you who like me imagine you are professional composers who work with virtual orchestras, when you load an orchestral instrument on kontakt player, do you load it in mono or stereo? regardless of whether it is a monophonic or stereophonic instrument.
@RicoDerks
@RicoDerks 2 ай бұрын
always stereo. Most modern libraries are recorded in SITU (where they would sit in an actual full orchestral recording) So you want to have the full stereo capture.

I wish there were more content on melody writing. There are tons of harmony videos on YT, when it comes to melody tho, it's like a desert. I know, one of the most hard practices on music is writing chords for melodies, still there are plenty books on this subject. Seems this is a had topic for YT.
@WhitePaintbrush
@WhitePaintbrush 3 ай бұрын
Personally I think the overabundance of educational content focusing on harmony is not because it’s harder to write, but because it’s easier to teach. Chord progressions have patterns that are easier to identify/label and collapse into a set of guidelines, if that makes sense. What makes a strong melody is harder to pin down. Or maybe it’s just a cycle that feeds itself; people don’t know how to talk about melody because they’ve never heard people talk about melody. Or maybe I have no idea what I’m talking about, that’s possible too.

@@masterthescore Hey, I was wondering: - is there a break down on the differences between both JRPG composing courses? - How they compare in content? - Is the first necessary to take the second course? Etc. Unfortunately, one course is a lot of money for my currently. But, it looks incredible and Joe Hisaishi is my musical hero. I have very strong theoretical knowledge. So, I want to make sure I choose the right one.
@RyanLeach

If you think your theory is strong you can probably dive into part two. There are a few times we say “as we covered in part one” but I don’t think anything that would really trip you up
