My mom and I saw Hui O Hana perform in a club in Waikiki in the 1970s. This beautifully performed song brought back memories of that evening. Mom was a hula dancer who had trained under hula master Tommy Hiona since the age of three. I have many fond memories of my mom and I taking in live performances of traditional Hawaiian music, such as Genoa Keawe, Val Kepilino, Kahauanu Lake Trio and others, and performing couple's hulas on stage together. She passed on last year. But this song brought back sweet memories of our times together. Mahalo plenty!

I lived 100 yards from the Poi factory, and knew that lady with her fruits by the bridge, and there was a little store next to the Poi factory. Those were the beautiful days, with the Kalo patch across the street. I grew up and LOVED.

Whenever I hear a Jerry Santos or Olomana song .. really reminds me of being a kid, playing in the streets of homestead in Waimanalo 😢. It was a rough childhood and all I wanted was to leave bc I felt so trapped in struggle after struggle. I have long since moved away and now in my adult years - I find myself longing for my home and music like his makes it more so true.
