I loved this. You make compelling points. It makes so much sense, what you say about efficiency, and also about the way in-person meetings are dynamic whereas emails, grants, or any written materials or premade videos are static. It also is highly intuitive to me, having been on the other side of these things. Usually, when people ask me for money in a mass mailing, I have some objections or reservations, or at least questions or concerns. And it's the path of least resistance to just ignore the request. A face-to-face meeting makes it more natural and easy to raise the objection, especially if the other person is creating a space where it is comfortable or even encouraged to do so. And when I think about my experience asking people for donations, I love it when people engage like this. A person raising objections or asking tough questions is kind of a best-case scenario for me, because it shows they're thinking about the project, and that they care about the results (rather than just blindly giving out of a sense of obligation or some other motivation.) Like, it shows commitment. Also, sometimes people's concerns can provide valuable feedback. I'm always a believer in the principle that for every person who voices a certain objection, there are probably 10 more who had the same objection but didn't speak up, so when people actually share, it is immensely useful in refining your organization's message. Yeah! Thanks again, I found this piece really inspirational and motivational and immensely helpful!

You are 110% right! One thing that I have never heard big tech start up incubators talk about is the fact that it is the board members job to ask for donations. They always ask for the entrepreneur to pitch their idea give some feedback but honestly if a entrepreneur can pitch their idea and get donors on the spot then they have achieved the next level for their business.
