Tolkien books and movie (Jackson) fan here. My oldest kids are fans as well. I watched and hated every minute of Rings of Power. I loved this movie. I loved that it was an Anime. Hera wasn't a girlboss, she was quite vulnerable, real, and feminine. BTW, what is the difference between a female Hero and a GirlBoss? That needs to be well defined. A man can be a B.A. hero, but a girl can't?

@devitradio couldn't agree more! I'm so glad to hear you enjoyed it 😁 That's such an important distinction to make and in my opinion it all comes down to whether you are forcing a narrative to fit an agenda and im my opinion this film didn't do that at all! 💪

I thought it was fine. The story was simple, the characters reflected that mostly (to me anyways), and some of the dialogue was a bit clunky and awkward at points. With that being said, it was definitely not the girl boss lore breaking movie people are making it out to be. It does raise a plot hole about the severe lack of ballistas in the world, but that’s not something worth complaining too hard about.

@@WhatsPoppingBruce Sure for this movie try Appendix A section 2 The House of Eorl. This isn't a faithful creation based of the roughly 2 & a half pages about the end of Helm rather taking the movie that should have been about Helm and basically using his name to give creditability to a boss/mary sue character that a writer has created for themself. To shoe horn the orks looking for the ring and Hera off to see Gandalf simply completely unnecessary. My suggestion to you as a content creator would be to put a little bit of work into your reviews, I don't think reading the roughly 2 & a half pages that is the source of the movie should be too much to ask.

@WhatsPoppingBruce
@WhatsPoppingBruce 11 күн бұрын
@Team-Aaron what's more... the same section of the appendices you cite refer to helm's death with reference to Helm dying one night when he was out stalking his enemies. He was found dead as a stone but with unbent knees, standing upon the Dike near the Hornburg. Is the movie embellishing this to create a narrative? Obviously... is it lore breaking? I remain unconvinced.

@@WhatsPoppingBruce Classic! Much like your review you again missed the point. If you took the time to read the comment you would have seen "To shoe horn the orks looking for the ring and Hera off to see Gandalf simply completely unnecessary." key point would be unnecessary not lore breaking, the lore breaking come from what the writer changes from the Apprendix in order to push the made up character.

I was really disappointed in this movie. The characters felt underdeveloped, the cgi was bad, the pacing of some scenes was off (too rushed or too quick), the emotional moments didn't land, the geography of characters at times was off "how is he there already?!", the music was pretty average. The emperors were a mixed bag, I thought Joseph Quinn showed some moments of something happening that could've been compelling, but again not enough time spent with him (and even that time was split with another emperor). Storylines didn't really go anywhere (Pedro PAscal's, even Paul Mescal's sort of limped to nothing at points). And some very heavy-handed use of Gladiator 1 to try and tie it in or make it seem greater than it actually is.

I’d like to share my thoughts on the recent Gladiator sequel, and I hope you’ll take them in the spirit of honest reflection. While I’m not a professional critic, just an ordinary film lover who appreciates cinema, I feel compelled to offer my perspective, especially in light of how much the landscape of filmmaking has changed over the years. Like many, I’ve grown weary of the endless reboots and sequels, often driven by the business side of Hollywood rather than creative inspiration. I’m not saying this to discourage you from enjoying the film, but I do want to share my honest reaction to it, and I hope it helps you make a more informed decision. The original Gladiator remains a true cinematic masterpiece. Its story, visuals, cinematography, and Hans Zimmer’s unforgettable score created an experience that resonated deeply with audiences. It was a rare film that stayed with you long after the credits rolled-something special that’s hard to replicate. Unfortunately, this sequel doesn’t capture that same magic. Despite a talented cast, the story feels hollow and doesn’t reach the emotional depth or visual artistry of its predecessor. It seems to try too hard to recreate the original’s impact, but in doing so, it falls short. I genuinely believe the film might have worked better as a standalone project or a spin-off rather than trying to tie it to such a legendary original. I’m sharing this not to discourage you from seeing the film if you’re curious, but simply to offer my honest opinion. I think there are other films out there right now that might be more worth your time and money. I appreciate the platform that KZbin provides for open dialogue, and if you disagree with my view, that’s perfectly fine. I’m just speaking from my own experience, and I hope it helps in some way.

(For a self indulgent film, I'd refer to the Judy Garland version of A Star Is Born.)

I just feel like the film drags it's feet a little in the middle and could have done with a few cuts in terms of the length of some of the less iconic music numbers to make way for a slightly faster paced plot. The third act is such a breath of fresh air though.. and is arguably one of the best of any film i have seen this year. I just felt it took us a little too long to get there, as we lingered a touch too long in one place or another for the sake of showing something that didn't feel wholly necessary. I do think that John M Chu is such a good director though that it will probably all prove to be important for setting up part 2... so it's a double edged sword when trying to judge a two-part film. Ultimately, I am nitpicking here to be honest 🤣. The movie as a whole is awesome and I can't wait for part 2!
