Once I realized how most of the forests left in Oregon were essentially plantations for the timber industry or lost in fires, I felt a little hopeless about old growth here in Oregon. Makes me feel so happy to see that there is in fact more surviving old growth than I initially thought and that people are working to protect it with stronger legislation for the future. Signed up and looking forward to doing some ground truthing!

The new designation does not limit human access in any way.

Sunstar wasting disease has not been linked to warming temps but more specifically to a biological pathogens. The biggest die-off was back in 2013/14 but continues at low levels. Other seastar species deaths have also been reported and the pathogens that have been identified are bacterial in nature.
