Thinking of swapping the sti jdm vers.10 ej207 into my 2014 sti, timing tensioner failed and uncle Rodney came knocking. I chose the vers.10 as its directly from the same chassis as mine, better internals than the 257, elh, twinscroll, higher revs etc etc. Both 32bit ecus, what I've dug up from Nasoic is its not too terrible to get the engine cooperating with the car harness wise. But if I was going to through all that I figured it would be best just to go for a standalone ecu as tuning the jdm ecu sounds very tiresome and limited and converting the engine to the usdm ecu sounds like a harness nightmare. Standalone would give me a lot more future tunability down the road, rolling antilag, launch control, tune the sensors to read the jdm so as to not have to go through the conversion process. As for the turbo.... **Could I just cut the flange off my existing downpipe to turbo section and weld the proper fitting one for the vf47?** I have the Cobb turboback, I would prefer to reuse it as I quite like the deep resonance from it. And I do prefer a twinscroll over a single scroll, I don't plan on doing anything crazy turbo wise, I figured I could just have a turbo shop bore out the compressor housing to fit a larger compressor if I wanted more oomf out of the vf47 in the future.

Curious if you still have the factory AC and heater core in place? Also, you didn't say in the video. Are you running the stock radiator? If not, what aftermarket radiator are you running that failed? As this car evolves I think you're going to have to go with some wide aero kit and mount the radiator in the rear trunk for better weight distribution and finally resolve the cooling issues. Glad you were able to get the donor long block and swapped out and Godspeed on Sunday 🌪️💯💯 🏁
@jeremyagostКүн бұрын
The car has the factory heater core to be able to run defogger for bad weather conditions. It does not have AC cooling. The radiator did not fail however the motor seemed to have issues after a previous overheat incident that was likely compounded by difficulty bleeding the system fully. Thanks for the support!

Great video! Question unrelated to your video but performance related, have a 2022 VB WRX and everyone talked about how great the FA24 was so got it. But one thing never talked about was the poor handling, already spent $5k on coilovers, bushings, sway bars, Advan wheels and 200tw tires, but mid-corner and corner exit is horrendous still, got to wait until whole corner is done and almost straighten until lay power down. Drove a completely stock STI and it's insane how different it was, mid-corner can already put the power down without it wanting to push. At Streets of Willow Springs track, the modified VB did 1:28 and the completely stock STI did 1:25. I reached out to a big Subaru tuner locally here in California called Renner and they said what I described was due to drivetrain, that the new VB WRX uses open front and open rear diff and that the STI has front LSD, center DCCD diff, and rear LSD. He said that front LSD cannot be added at all to the front of the new VB because of the transmission, and that were I to add it I'd have to spend $10k in parts and labor for STI front, center, and rear drivetrain. The car itself was inexpensive at $30k, I've already spent $5k in suspension mods. My question to you is do I really need to spend another $10k to get STI drivetrain? If so, would it make more sense to just sell the VB and buy a STI to begin with?

That’s an interesting question. There are many aftermarket differential options for Subarus including the 6-speed and rear differential of the type that are used in a WRX. While it’s true the factory STI driveline is very good, the pointy end of the STI racecar field typically isn’t using stock diffs. Many have upgraded to Cusco or Modena or other options to be able to get a more aggressive and consistent track performance. Remember that especially from 2008 forward, the STI was not built and sold as a track car but rather as a spirited daily driver. My suggestion would be to shoot Rallispec a call or email and ask about diff upgrades for your WRX. If your goal is a highly competitive track car then yes you should anticipate spending thousands not only swapping to an STI driveline but also upgrading the diffs in it.

@@Christosan88 @jeremyafost thanks both of you, you’re both right and confirmed I spoke with Renner, the largest tuner here in California for Subaru and they also compete in Gridlife time attacks. They said new WRX VB is fine for fun daily driver but capabilities are very low if it’s for track use even with aftermarket like I intend. They told me the VB WRX is very heavy since it’s built on Forester chassis so it weighs 3500 lbs, that’s insane. But because it’s so heavy and strong chassis that it’s safe and comfortable. They said the best model that’s proven on track is the first generation GC8 STI, they said that first generation STI stock already weighs 2700 lbs, lighter than a S2000 and BRZ, and already comes with front LSD, center DCCD, and rear LSD. The shop said they race GC at time attack and stripped got it down to 2200 lbs with full roll cage. Just found a 1998 imported STI Type RA for $25k up in San Francisco, 6 hour drive, going to convince wife for me to sell the new WRX and try and buy that one.

Trust me when I say this - We would LOVE to. The main hurdle is cost. Finding a well documented, low mileage car that would be fit for emissions testing is near impossible as they are all upwards of 20 years old at this point. I can't (and won't) say it will never happen, but the business case becomes increasingly more difficult the older the cars get. - Marshall@COBB

@Yknotvideos5 күн бұрын
The expansion tank vents to the coolant reservoir via a tube that is kept in coolant at all times. This allows the system to heat up and cool down, while pushing coolant in and out of the expansion tank without sucking air back in (which could lose your bleed of the system). Since the radiator vents to the top of the expansion tank, you want it to be able to push coolant out, but not pull anything back, because it could pull air back in and lose the bleed. The recommended way to set this system up basically allows for the proper regulation of pressure and control of thermal expansion in the system while having an ambient-pressure coolant reservoir available to the user and not allowing any air to enter the system. That being said, if you REALLY fill the expansion tank up, you probably won't ever get enough air in the cooling system to cause a problem, but if you 1. don't get the tank completely full, or 2. allow air to enter the expansion tank in some way (e.g. low coolant in the reservoir), you could end up in trouble.

Awesome video!!! I am learning lots. A related question of ethanol fuel system and the COBB hardware and software; can your gear and software be set up to regulate when an ethanol+water injection system is set to off, on, and then turns off again? I have heard from a few sources that driving very short distances, say between 0 to 10 minutes, with either E30-85 or ethanol+water active from a cold start can cause a black gel like sludge of deposits to build up in the engine and cause major problems. So to clarify, can the COBB hardware and software be set up to engage the use of ethanol+water (in the intake manifold or charge cooler) after a few minutes of initial driving after cold start, when the engine has had a chance to warm up, and then alternatively be manually selected to turn off whenever the driver wants to? Can an existing engine temperature sensor on the car (or added sensor) be used to trigger the start of ethanol+water use when the ECU knows that the temperature is in the correct window for optimal use?
@MR__JUSTIN4 күн бұрын
They aren't talking about supplemental fuel injection in this video. They're talking about filling your tank with E85 at the pump instead of gasoline and having that go through the regular fuel system.

What I dont understand, is why they don't market the old flex fuel kits as for "Off road use ONLY". Then push out reminders to the customers that the mod is not EPA street legal, so it should be used at their own risk. I dont know how much legal pressure Cobb was dealing with from the EPA, but the government should not have the right to tell a aftermarket perfomance car part company what they can and cannot sell.
@beaches2mountains2308 күн бұрын
THEYVE EXPLAINED THIS IN PODCASTS OVER AT IAG.. THE STUFF THAT IS LABELED "FOR OFF ROAD USE" IS A HUGE RED FLAG FOR THE EPA AND THEY STATED THAT THE "OFF ROAD USE ONLY " HAS ZERO LEGAL PROTECTION IN TODAYS EPA ENVIROMENT AND SIMPLY WOULD EQUATE TO HUGE FINES FROM THE CORRUPT GOVERNING BODY.

I understand the why they hand to do it; with the whole EPA thing and all but what I find reprehensible is that they knew well before selling the flex fuel kits on the GDs that they were going to do what they did. They sold the kits anyways, and then they said, "sorry, all sales are final" No refunds. That is not an EPA thing, that is a responsibility that a well-established company that the community loves and trusts has a mandate to abide to and that is why I cannot support this company. If you are a consumer, willing to spend hundreds of dollars (which in this economy is crazy expensive) and know that you do not have a guarantee that you will neither get your product or unbeknownst to you it will become obsolete with no way of getting your money back you would think twice about supporting such a company. No company should be allowed to get away with that; not airlines, hotels, or simple aftermarket third party goods. Make a statement with who you patronize with your business and I, for one, will not be supporting COBB in any way.
