As a fan of Leo Valdez' classic style from the Manila proshot from 24 years, Seann's performance here was something exciting, original, charismatic, and wonderfully inventive. #EnginQueer

Seann Miley Moore is gorgeous, fun and has immense talent! I realized however that I prefer the traditional, "straight" or should I say crooked, sleazier and shadier type of Engineer. He's more bar girl than pimp. His potrayal is very now tho and will bring in a lot of new audience.

i dont care what anyone says, when i watched the show last night he stole the show and had to give a standing ovation during the curtain call. im young and queer and one day i want to have his level of confidence, charisma, and showmanship. while the engineer as a character clearly has its flaws, i think seann's portrayal as an ambitious and bold individual who wants to live a successful life will, in a way, speak to people like it spoke to me. i dunno, this performance was just really special.

I didn't know what to make of his overly queer/raunchy interpretation at first, I mean coming from the likes of Jonathan Pryce, Leo Valdez ... but come to think of it the Engineer himself grew up without a father figure.. his French dad wasn't around very often so he was mostly under the care of his mom and he was exposed to prostitution at a young age... I dunno, think of all that childhood trauma and baggage that could have influenced him to take on an outrageous personality to escape from reality.

So basically, he recreated the Engineer to be a spunky gay guy…TOTAL DISREGARD OF THE CHARACTER. Heck, why not have a black woman play Kim. How far do we really want to press the button of craziness. Why not make Gigi lesbian because it suits the present woke culture. Or make Chris an Asian guy, why not. In fact have the entire Vietnamese Army be hisapnic in the name of inclusion, diversity and equity. Miss Saigon is so old and tiresome the best this production can do is apply wokeness. Come up with a new musical, even a sequel where Tam turned into an adult gay guy in America played by Moore…THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER.
@earlhaven
@earlhaven 4 ай бұрын
That’s a great idea! I would love to play an Asian Chris! Talent and diversity should always be celebrated. Go watch a newer show like “The Notebook” and tell me that “wokeness casting,” as you say it, doesn’t work. Joanna Ampil playing the female “Engineer” in Sheffield.
@ServandoIV
@ServandoIV 3 ай бұрын
@@earlhaven If a play or musical is specific to a certain race or time period or gender, then it should be portrayed according to the author’s vision whether it be Books, scripts, compositions. For example the book Dracula…the character is about a European prince from Transylvania. If this book turned into a Broadway play where Dracula is played by a gay black guy with nose piercings, it would be hard to swallow. I am not a fan of erasing original identities of musicals or plays just to satisfy the whim wokeness or DEI. I would much rather see an original work or piece meant for a lesbian, gay, person of color because that’s what the script asks for. Heck ya, if you’re a hot Asian guy, why not :)

Oh brother, did you shell out any cash for the production? Did you get paid to direct? Did you sew the costumes? I take it, no, so you have the option to not watch it. There have been several musicals where I wasn't crazy about the production or the actors, I simply chose not to see it. Instead, you sit here and rant and rave with your narrow-mindedness. This speaks volumes about your character.

No hate on the actual actor (he's great and just doing his job) but it was a weird choice to make the most villainous/shallow character the only gay one. Also the same character that is always called out as a racial stereotype. Not exactly an "empowering" role for gay asian people. Stuffy old people will be mad that they changed it, and younger crowds will be offended by the bad stereotypes. What's the point of all the changes???
@TheKnowledgeMan101
@TheKnowledgeMan101 4 ай бұрын
Well I'm a young bisexual man, from the Philippines, and I love this change and I'm not offended. Because it reminds me so much of the fabulous queer coded villains from Disney movies. Also, here in the Philippines, many gay people are these feminine girlish people and people love it. The actor himself says, that he's just impersonating his Filipino aunts. I love it so much "The American Dream" song is supposed to be fabulous, and all the straight masculine guys who portray it aren't really good in my opinion. Having a gay guy do it, in a feminine queer way, certainly did.
