I just found this strap busted. I got like 12 codes as of recently and checked EVERYTHING and reset the code. The thing is the 12 codes return before the cycle ends of the computer system. Im gonna replace it this week hopefully it fixes it.

I have that exact rear end 10 bolt cover 12 bolt ring gears did you change the ring gear somehow and how
@ReverseGear20 күн бұрын
I really don't remember it was so long ago. But these GM rear ends are easy to change gears in. There are 2 carriers, tho. Highway gears and low gears.

ALWAYS check all your fuses and flashers first. I had zero flashers, no signals , no emeerg replaced a fuse, then the signals kinda TRIED to work, flashing once every5-6 seconds then i found the flasher, one terminal was so rusted on i couldnt remove it and had to cut both wires and reterminate them to hook up new flasher SO $10 flasher later and 2 $7 packs of fuses to get right fuse and its fixed!

Does it fit flush in the holes or would I need an extended hose to connect where it broke off
@ReverseGearАй бұрын
It's better to extend it from the t-stat housing. Because it's doesn't have the curve in it.

In case anyone is interested, the rear is an MP-78 rear built by Pontiac. It had 3 different generations. 65-70, 71-76 and 77-82. These were mainly used in full size GM cars. It has a 12 bolt carrier and the posi was made by Eaton. 65-76 had 31 spline axles while the 77-82 were 28 spline. There is 0 aftermarket support for these. I think gear ratios maxed out at 3.42 and there was a place in Texas that was making 3.55 gears for them but they fit the 2 series carrier. These were used in the 2+2 Pontiacs in the 60s which were Pontiac’s full size performance cars. The only other performance car I’ve ever seen one in was a 73 Buick Grand Sport that was a factory Stage 1 455 with a 4 speed manual. I only know this because I have one in a 75 Pontiac Grand Prix that my brother rebuilt from a 2.56 open to a 3.23 posi and it took me a couple years to find the carrier and gears. These are strong rears but they don’t fit many performance cars. I seem to remember there were a lot of Ford parts in the rebuild kit. They do bear a striking resemblance to Ford’s 8.8.

That's real close. If your plan is to just bolt it up, its not going to work. But if your plan is to tig weld some bushings in to thread and hold yhoste screws and then tog weld a couple of bushings in to hold the starter, then cut the side out so the starter clears and weld in a new piece (maybe you could salvage a piece from SBF tranny?) It might just work. It would be wet to put a 6 speed on my Cleveland. I wonder if there's enough room to just mount a modular starter where it goes on the modular engine and if the ring gear is the same diameter.

@ReverseGear4 ай бұрын
Just run an old battery cable instead. It took 2 extra grounds to fix my car. There's one directly to the alternator mount. I think that's the one that fixed my problem. The other one was replacing the battery thin body ground. With a battery cable, too. Pinto rule!
