I just cleaned lubed, and waxed my 6&9 wt Graphite USA flyrods. 6wt has a 1991 cassette reel. 9wt has a 1991 Ross Cimmaron. Yes, I do have a collection of reels and rods. Including 2 1930’s Chinese split bamboo rods with 1930’s vintage fly reels. Among other rods and reels I’ve collected. My Grandfather used to fish the Beaverkill with Harry Darby and Lee Wulff….

Hi when using the loop cast do you take your finger of the spool allowing the spool to spin as you flick the rod tip out or keep your finger on the spool allowing the line you have pulled of the spool to go out only thanks

I wonder why the don't build more center pins with a turning link in the food, for better casting.

Fantastic - I never knew a thing about centrepin reels (only ever fly-fished), so this was a splendid introduction

I don't get the bit about bait that will behave more naturally, well if that's the case we should never shot down the line as it adds weight to the bait.... All bait sinks according to its own weight? So any shot down the line, will it be behaving 'naturally'??? Any advice anyone?
@johnharrison97555 ай бұрын
My understanding and I know I could be wrong is that he is saying the smaller weight is making the bait fall closer to its natural speed. Bigger weight will drag it down faster and the shallow swim fish will ignore it.

I used to have a 5.1/2" handle-less, extra wide Leeds reel that would spin for ages with one bat. The beauty of Leeds reels is there's plenty of room for your fingers between the rim and the seat. After reading an article by the great angler Dave Thomas I had mine set up with the line coming off the top which I found gave greater trotting control and sticking you fingers in one of the holes soon became second nature when playing a fish. Sadly I let it go when my trotting days ended.

Would you use this same setup for perch fishing?
@AmateurAngling7 ай бұрын
For Perch and Chub I like to use a mono leader to a snap link swivel. Slower retrieval for Perch. Best of luck.
@johnmillington24537 ай бұрын
You are just talking about course fish, Trout are totally different and should be unhooked in the water at all times.
