I was really unhappy with that draft. First of all that was the strike year and the draft was in Ottawa but was delayed and instead of being held at the Corel Centre it had to be held at a hotel so it wasn't held under it's normal format because the Corel Centre wasn't available when they finally settled the strike and we didn't get to see Sidney Crosby get drafted the normal way. Then my stupid Senators drafted the American D Brian Lee who ended up not panning out (only 167 games played for us) instead of D Marc Staal who was Canadian and who's brothers were proven NHL stars and had a wonderful career. Ottawa didn't have a 2nd round pick, the 3rd rounder was some Russian who NEVER played a game in the NHL, the 4th rounder played a total of 34 games for us and a couple of other draftees never played a game here. Ironically our 7th pick for us played 150 games here. To make matters worse Ottawa traded away a lot for that year's 2nd overall pick Bobby Ryan and it never really worked out for us. The 2005 NHL draft has left a particularly bad taste in my mouth all these years later. Great video, though.

worst draft in history ? Yep I think it certainly is being this tough on the teams isn't fair because there just wasn't much to take from this draft. its the players themselves that really stunk so everyone was worthless but a handful of guys even the 1st over was a real disappointment. It had a lot to do with desire and less to do with ability in most of the cases since as you point out a lot of them just didn't stay in hockey at any level very long after their draft year. Not many 20 year minor league/european league careers

I was 4/4 in the second round and 7/8 in the first round, making me 11/1 for the playoffs so far. I agree with you about Dallas in 5, but I've got to give it to the Panthers in 7. The grit of that team is unlike anything I've seen from the Rangers. I think we'll see a Panthers/Stars cup battle and the first Stanley Cup for the Florida Panthers! I will say that this 2022 Stanley Cup Finals match-up between the Avalanche and Lightning will be best finals match-up we have seen in a long time, Lightning trying to win the Stanley Cup for the 3rd year in a row since the Islanders won 4 in a row in the early 80's and the Avalanche trying to win the Stanley Cup for the first time since 2001 and the best team all season long should be a great Finals.
