Great video! Very helpful and makes bringing our 8 week old Bernese home much less stressful and very exciting! Thank you!

Our last dog since passed was a Rottie, and the best dog I've ever had in my lifetime. Wife is now trying to sell me on a Bernie... I'm not sold just yet.

Horrific to hear you promoting phyiscal correction using a prong collar!!! Im out, no time for any form of animal abuse. Shame on you.

We have a pair of Akita-Bernese mixes. They each skew towards different aspects of the akita/bernese temperament spectrum, but they are both very sweet, loyal dogs. Interestingly, they required minimal training to become responsive to our commands. One tends to dislike loud/animated people, and they both have to be closely supervised with small animals, but outside of those considerations they are extremely well-behaved (in the sense that they listen and trust beyond what we've experienced with other dogs).

My first time watching. I can only thank you for your candor. We lost our loving "Lucy" at the young age of 4 1/2 years. She was beautiful - everyone loved her. It was heartbreaking and I would not want to go through that again.

I like training my dogs to be singularly focused on my commands and posture themselves aggressive enough to make anyone attempting to enter my property to soil their pants and never, ever try it again. Also be a good pillow for me when I'm taking a nap.

This has been a real challenge for me. I can't seem to coordinate walking her & trying to get her to be on my left. Our Berner is 8 months & went thru a basic obedience class. When walking, she wants to eat everything she sees tho lately a little less. She seems to think 'heel' means 'sit' & will stop & jump for the treat. I bought a mesh muzzle which keeps her from eating stuff, but of course can't give her a treat with that on. She can also be stubborn & decide to just sit or lay down in someone's lawn & won't get up. So frustrating!

What to do? Love it, feed it, play with it, share your bed. Your dog will tell you what it wants.

I’m really struggling with my five month old BMD and nipping / growling rough play. We can’t walk in the garden without her growling and attacking as if I’m going to wrestle her but it’s not in a nice way and not getting any better. You say ensure they see you as a leader before you work on correcting behaviour. How do you know they see you as a leader?

I love the emphasis on routine and planning ahead a bit. One of the most important things for a dog, is that they know what is expected from them. They can't know that if their owner doesn't.
@JaredYates19 ай бұрын
Yeah, hard pass physical punishment is never acceptable. You can do some amazing work with some chicken as opposed to choking your dog to death. What happens when your dog is not on a leash. Patience and positive reinforcement is a far more effective long term training method.
