First I have no idea why I'm getting this recommended to me 11 years later. 5th the previous year is very good. Don't think Holly should've knocked that. There seems to be sense of entitlement in the British press that we must do well all the time because we're British, and the fact we don't is because we're British, not because we can't send good acts. The Big 5 (Germany, France, Italy, Spain & UK) historically don't do very well. Spain hasn't done well in a long time but they still care. Look at somewhere like the Netherlands. They last won in 1975 and failed to qualify a number of years, yet they won in 2019. A much larger span of time since the UK last won in 1998. If the BBC actually cared about Eurovision, then they may select a decent act to send. Maybe it's time C4 took the mantel and introduced a selection contest so people felt invested in rather than someone folk have barely heard of turning up and expecting them to win....
