Stumbled upon this video on my recommended list and allahumma barik has really made me think about what we consume hourly and whether it is good for the soul. I’ve always loved reading and love how you’ve related classics to Islam. Will definitely be picking up some of your recommendations!

alhamdulillah this came on rec! i recently went on umrah and found myself turning to God more. I already ditched music several months back. I found myself removing all the fictions from my reading list bc I feel it has no benefits to me than non fictions. I think this video meant for me like I know fictions can have impact, I just don't know which one. Thanks!

Hey! just wanted to ask if you consider that the picture of Dorian gray is an appropriate book especially for a 15years old teenager i heard people say it is indecent...
@awiista
@awiista Ай бұрын
It depends on the 15 yr old. As I mentioned, this one isn’t as clear-cut as others, and Oscar Wilde leaves it to the reader’s discretion to decide the morality of the message. The book is about living a life of hedonism and its consequences. The “indecent” part lies in one of the characters encouraging hedonism through long dialogues.

Can you please write the book title and author in description please. Some of the the book covers are a little unclear and as a non native english speaker am struggling with ur accent a bit! Love this so much. Let me know when we have a book club or active community with online session. We can use discord servers to facilitate it.

This is so underrated! Your perspective and awareness of the shifting of priorities driven by egoism and consumerism is not shared enough as one of the human struggles.

Ma Sha' Allah sister I've been trying to find classics with good morals and beliefs ! You should totally make a video similar to this but with more modern books. Every book I find nowadays seem to have some form of explicit content in it, so it'd be lovely to find one that focuses less on things like that 😅

JazakAllah Khairan sister for the recommendations, I just got the pdf for Tao of Islam and I am so excited to begin reading it. I will be in Japan in a few weeks inshaAllah and I feel like it will be the perfect book to read and unwind after a long day. Love your synopsis and description, I have always been so fascinated by the verse "And we created everything in pairs" especially as it relates to the masculine and feminine... and to know that theres a book out there that relates this to Taoism/Eastern philosophy is soooooooo amazing. Can't wait to start it inshAllah

Afghan girl here, born in UK. So happy for you girl, this is the kind of romance I dream and pray to have. Alhamdulillah. May Allah SWT bless your marriage. Please pray for your Afghan sister. I'd prefer a convert too, someone who loves me for me (the weird/quirky, the modest, the intelligent) and obviously want him to be attracted to me. There's a crisis here for Muslim girls who just want to live a modest life, with zero haraam and get married to someone with pure intentions too. Just a question, how do I go about finding a husband without social media. How would your husband have approached you if you didn't have social media and post yourself online? Please don't ask me to ask my family because they don't really care - dad is busy being unfaithful to my mother and my mother isn't involved in the community that much. They tell me you can't find anyone who is chaste around my age (I'm almost 28 btw) and that I'll be forever alone lol. Ain't lowering my standards though, ever!

Ameen thank you! I don’t really know sis. Except maybe be active in your community so that people know of you inshAllah. The community can be of any kind that is based around your interests/ personality so that you can meet like minded people. My husband came to know of me through hearing of me from the Muslim community here. Then followed me on Instagram. May Allah make it easy and help you find the right person!! Ameen

Thank you for this video! I was actually just thinking about this and wanting to get back into reading but in a way I could use it to get closer to Allah and have a better understanding of his creation. These videos are great to have this conversation and contribute to the sphere for all the muslim women who wish to get into literature. It is quite a bad feeling to read a book and feel like it neither contributed to your deen or dunya, or to be exposed to content that actually harms your spiritual journey and takes you down a notch, or creates doubts if you have unanswered questions. So I feel like when picking books believing people may often think “Is this going to be a waste of time or have a bad influence on me?”, which is why I'm so happy we have videos like these to help people get a headstart and help them to maybe read more critically. I appreciate your work and hope to see more!

When you say Modern do you mean Contemporary books or books from the Modern era? A lot of “Classics” are from the Modern period, that’s why I asked! 🤗
@awiista
@awiista 2 ай бұрын
I mean Modernity and post modernity as I explained in case for classics :) I understand - and that’s why I explained that although the ones I have chosen aren’t all necessarily from pre modernity it still holds the moral values of pre modernity bc it isn’t very new and therefore fully inspired by ideas we hold true now. Hope that’s more clear ☺️

“Sylvia’s Lovers” (Elizabeth Gaskell) was the first classic lit book that made me truly think that a moral world could exist! And that virtue was accessible. It focuses on the life of a teen girl in pastoral England growing up in a time of political & economic upheaval. It’s a good read.

Salaam sister, i would recommend a book called 'the redemption of David Corson' by Charles Frederick Goss. It's just over a 100 years old i believe and its written so well and covers themes such falling from innocence and the road back,i highly recommend it. As far as i know it's not a well known book and the author only wrote this novel.
