What a great job and a lovely Landy. My restored Australian army series 3 has the original 6 cylinder petrol. If it ever gives out I’ll go for a Tdi for sure. The petrol sounds so sweet though.

The positives as you say are its waterproof. Most people are unlikely to notice it been where it is and they won't be looking for it. As you say you can always reskin it if you feel appropriate. As owners we are probably our own biggest critics and to most people they wont either notice it or don't think its as bad as you do. Don't beat yourself up about it , you've done what you can to preserve it just enjoy it. 👍 .

Its pretty much a unique event and i went this year for the first time. Like you i went on the Saturday and drove 65 miles in glorious sunshine and blue sky then 5 miles outside Brid saw the fog. It was a bit disappointing not seeing any real action on the beach but still had a good day and i'm pleased i went. There was a good turn out of vehicles. Don't think i caught any footage of yours but do have footage/pictures of the Dax. Very clever number plate. Great show and some fantastic and very clever looking machines i have never seen so many of this type in one place.

@@Classic-Shack BRU356A the silver 356 was very convincing and had that patina look of authenticity. It was very well done. It you cant tell if its real or not its good and i thought the same. The A plate fit in well for 63 the 356 for the model but it appears its a 72 VW. Don't care if it was a copy or not i liked it and the best thing is you could use it without fear of something serious happening to it and thats what they are about having fun.

The 200tdi seems very tolerant to not having a fan. One of mine eventually blew the cap off (using the TDI plastic header tank & radiator on this one) during a hot summer when sat idling / low speed for several hours off road. Filled it back up with water and suffered no issues whereas some 300tdis have been hit and miss after this happening. I am making space for the viscous fan during its current rebuild as it will be doing a lot of idling / low speed potentially in hotter climates = no air flow
@Classic-Shack
@Classic-Shack Жыл бұрын
I've not used this off road but did have a series years ago with a 200di conversion that I used off road. I also ran that without a fan and again never had any overheating issues. Guessing it would be a good idea though in warmer climates. What do you have and where are you planning on using it?
@lowen74s
@lowen74s Жыл бұрын
I've got a small collection 😅 2x S2's, an S3, P38 and D2. The Series's are always the last ones working when the P38 and D2 need fixing, they all have 200TDI's. The S3 is being rebuilt so it can be daily driven but go greenlaning and road trips. Wales would be the most frequent road trip destination as been a few times but like the idea of the Portsmouth to Santander ferry to have a road trip round Spain.

Highly recommended...5 speed gearbox, either an LT77 or R380 stumpy. That 200 will inevitably, chew up, and spit out the LT75. You will need an Ashcroft conversation kit, shortened prop shaft and a few chassis mods(not a big deal with the mig welder) also, glencoyne engine mount, soft shore hardness of rubber. Cheers
@Classic-Shack
@Classic-Shack Жыл бұрын
Thanks for your recommendations. I had thought about changing the gearbox but I'm very reluctant to alter the chassis due to it being galvanized. The engine mounts sound familiar, I think they're the ones I fitted. I believe Ashcroft also do a high ratio transfer case kit that I like the look of. Thanks for watching 👍
