The banlity of evil. The Nazi promoted banlity, feed a mass German ego, and appealed to peoples emotion. The much improved economy of the pre-war Nazi period, getting rid of French occupation, the acqusition of the Sudatenland, the Anschluss, the Nurenberg rallies and hyper-nationalism, probably went a long way towards making the common German FEEL that they were on the right track. If only Hitler had died in the middle of 1938, he would have gone down in their view as a big hero. And would have, and did for a time, create a very unhealthy culture. It took losing WW2 + the revelation of all the atrocities to discredit Nazism. But I'm sure, for those Germans who lived through that era, and I've meet a few, that there was nostalgia of that period before the war for the feel it gave them.

Abba split up because B&B had grown tired of the pop genre and aimed for more mature music, which you can clearly hear on the last 2 albums. An important factor was also that times had clearly changed, and the interesting pop music now came from bands in the new steaming hot romantic wave. In that light, Abba appeared as major squares. Time was up.
