I'm going to pet-scan this thursday, and i'm so scared. I don't want to leave my kids. Hope i'm as lucky as this brave woman.

Your beginning sounds similar to the beginning I'm at now. Mine started out with finding cysts and then a tumor on 2 different ultrasounds. Before then I had chronic UTI like symptoms that had me on the couch all day, living on heating pads, basically due to the cramping. Lots of bloating as well. I also was guilty of holding off on going to the appointments due to a lack of trust in our health system where we live, which I know now is no excuse. I finally got sick of how I was feeling and got myself an appointment with a local obgyn, with the encouragement of my husband as well. I came up negative for a UTI or yeast infection, so the nurse practitioner set me up for an ultrasound appointment and an obgyn. The ultrasound showed 2 cysts. One cyst was the size of a softball. Then I met with the obgyn who scheduled me right away for surgery, but also made another appointment for another ultrasound. The second ultrasound showed changes. I had developed a mass and an ovarian torsion. I was told to not wait for the surgery and head straight to the ER. I was terrified, but I was trying to laugh and make jokes with the doctors and my family and pray a lot to try to keep myself from feeling the fear that I felt. I won't mention a lot, but I ended up having to argue with the doctors to get the surgery I needed. My own doctor advocated for me to get it, but the ER doctors were gonna send me back home. I ended up having the surgery though. They fixed the torsion and removed the cyst and mass. The mass, or at least what they said, turned out to be a benign serous cystadenoma. Right now I'm still recovering from surgery, but I am getting a second and possibly 3rd opinion. I don't really know about the results from the ovarian cyst. I don't think they even came back yet. But I'm not gonna lie, this is very scarey. I am not scared of death, but I am scared of the unknown. I'm thankful the first opinion was benign, and I try to focus on that, but again, I don't trust the hospital I had to be at at that time. I am planning on having my specimen sent out to the #1 top cancer center in the entire world, along with a university hospital that is another amazing hospital, and just that overwhelms me. I've never known till now just how scarey it is to have a mass that came from my body, sent out to different hospitals. I still don't know what the future, but I know I have no control over whatever happens. I've learned to be OK with allowing myself to process the fear and I'm learning more to lean into Jesus through this and embrace hope but also prepare for the worst. Thank you for sharing your story. I'm in the USA but maybe 1 day I'll share my story, and that story will be a positive 1.

I like this! While I have man-balls, this issue effects me; because I have a living Mother, three sisters, nieces and great-nieces, and buddies with lady-balls! I remember what a hoot it was learning about ovaries(or lady-balls). Man-balls and lady-balls are equally important and I care! I remember saying, don't let her pretty looks fool you; she's got some brass balls! I'm surprised at how many people don't know that ladies have balls, too! It's just that theirs don't hang out in a sack like Man-balls do! They're inside!

Have women in Canada discovered Jane McLelland's book How To Starve Cancer. Thousands of cancer sufferers throughout the world are learning from and sharing their own experience on her Facebook. Jane's first cancer was in the late 1990's. She has had about 3 serious cancers and today is well and working with the best oncologists and new ideas of treatment. A list of books written by cancer patients who have a different survival story than chemo, surgery, radiation should be given to everyone with a diagnosis because they are inspiring, informative and innovative. Not a diet book, but how to starve the cancer itself from the nutrients it needs.

I agree that surgical menopause needs more attention, and many of us worldwide are pushing for change. :) Thank you for this important conversation! I want to highlight that the 2022 NAMS Statement emphasises individualised HRT, continuing at least until the average age of menopause, (around 52) for early menopause and also states it doesn't need to be routinely discontinued for natural menopause either after 60-65. This means there’s no fixed cutoff date for stopping HRT. Like any medical treatment, HRT should be personalised, considering the unique risks and benefits for each person (Ref: p. 774 & 784, 2022 NAMS Statement).

No researchers from Alberta? There are two prestigious universities in Alberta (University of Calgary and University of Alberta) and 3 wonderful cancer centres: Tom Baker Cancer Centre in Calgary, Cross Cancer Institute in Edmonton and the Central Alberta Cancer Centre. Why no researchers from Alberta?

Trista was exactly right to go searching on the internet about her cancer. You need to be as knowlegeable as possible, regarding your own cancer. Any doctor who tells you not to research your own cancer, should be discarded. Many drug trials and new treatments, are posted on the internet. Keeping up with that information is a good way to make sure that your doctor is offering you the latest treatments.

I have low grade cancer. how to treatment,
@anglophils645 Жыл бұрын
To Lovemay Puerto: you must discuss with your doctor, which treatment is right for you, post surgery. The first thing you need to do, is to have very good surgery, to remove as much of the cancer as possible. If I were you, I should then ask your doctor about PARP inhibitor drugs. They have fewer side effects as compared to chemotherapy. And while chemotherapy works well on high grade serous ovarian cancers, it is not known to work that well on low grade cancers. I don't think that I should risk the side effects of chemotherapy, some of which can be permanent, for a low grade cancer. I'd look into PARP inhibitor drugs instead, if I were you. And you may also want to consider estrogen-blocker drugs. You should discuss all of these options with your doctor. I hope this explanation helps you (my brother is a cancer doctor---we talk about this stuff regularly. Plus, I have a sister-in-law who recently battled ovarian cancer, so I researched it a lot).

@melodymulligan1067 Жыл бұрын
From working with the Harvard doctor that treated my mom, (Lydia), she said even with a genetic positive test, you would still only have 30-50% the gene would be active so it’s epigenetically turned on by your environment. Yes some people will have no possibility if they test negative- but even for those who have genetic issues- it’s not always true. My moms genetic test was negative. So it came from her environment- her cancer was in her RNA- which is the mutation in the protein not the DNA- so it was caused by something in her environment. The Harvard doctor told me this while we were in a treatment for her. So I am determined for people to know this- because people NEED to be getting GENE tests so they know how much work they would need to prevent a downgrade in gene activity through lifestyle.
