As you say, life was much easier for those who are now pensioners. Why should the tax payer be paying for universal fuel payments to mostly wealthy pensioners. Those who need it can still get support via means tested welfare schemes.

A failure to manage the growth in population is the root cause. There needed to be serious investment in infrastructure/public sector to meet the needs of the population ; but when the lion share of jobs created were/are low wage then the tax receipts are simply not available to sustain what was a very good standard of living for most. The future is life in a fifteen minute town with restrictions : No freedom, digital currency, no dissent and no future. The left and woke are moving this agenda forward quickly with their climate ideology and desire for more people. Good luck Daryl I'm with you on this one.

Yeah - It occupies my mind non stop realising I have to get out. They want our homes and our cars taken away. They are taking away all the jobs. I'm not sure what to do, I have thought about trying to make a go of it in the Philippines and trying to get a white monkey job or start some kind of business.

It's totally true, I agree with you! It's sad but it is a reality, this nation is going down. I finish Uni and start moving out to Canada, America, Asia, let's see! But for sure I'll do it this is not going to change especially with this government.

You speak a lot of truth although I wish you would refrain from the "illegal immigrants" comments. The people are not actually illegal it's just the Conservative government closing off all other routes to the UK. It is my belief that Brexit caused a lot of the problems you're referring to. Loss of freedom of movement and far more immigration into the UK. than ever before. Anyway having got that out of the way I left UK 12 years ago and have no intention of returning. Interestingly many ex-pats I speak to have very similar views. I wish you luck for the future and will continue watching. You speak for a large number of UK citizens about the current situation in the UK.

Complaints about immigrants. Wants to become an immigrant. And yes, you specified "illegal" immigrants, but you will only have an easier ride emigrating because you were born here, and very likely because of the EU. The EU that mandates how we treat illegal immigrants (you know, humanely). Just because you'll manage to emigrate doesn't make you any different from an illegal immigrant. You got the free education etc. They didn't. So you'll probably find a job, and be welcomed legally. So, are you better because you were born in Scotland, and will find it easier to become a "legal" immigrant? No. But yeah, sure, immigrants are the problem, especially ones who didn't get a free education.

I can assure these far away lands require us to put far more into the system than take out. Migrants are not a problem and should not be blamed, but it serves as a useful deflection. There has been an abject failure to match investment in line with population growth. The tax receipts are not there and the middle/aspirational are squeezed as it is. The filthy rich i.e. 1% already contribute a third of all tax receipts. The left and the woke are applying the coup de grace and the inevitable communes move a step closer.

Intresting to see many people commenting seem to live or would like to live in SE Asia, but not noticed anyone much mentioning Southern South America, nicer, safer parts of Brasil, Argentina, Uruguay and Chile may be worth checking out? , Southern Brasil I love but am a dual national and Speak Portuguese of course, which makes it easy for me. It is much easier for a Native English speaker to learn Portuguese or Spanish than any of the languages of SE Asia I would say. I am not in any way knocking SE Asia, just suggesting for those wanting out of the UK Southern South America may be worth investigating?

The worst people in this country are not the illegal migrants, it is the people and politicians who will tell you to suck it up and get a better paying job... I hope to leave this country soon too. Mate, they have not cut that benefit, they have made it means tested. Those who can't afford it will still get it. Of course there is the problem that old folks may not be competent to navigate this- so if the govt don't proactively support people there will be rage, but there are PLENTY of older people with a lot more cash than you or I, who don't need that benefit but currently get it. Regarding the fundamental problem here - watch Gary Stephenson.

I migrated to the UK in 2002 and was so proud! The NHS, the education system and the culture. I am now in my 30s, working a corporate job which is essentially slave labour. Each minute of your time is managed and you're expected to work through your lunch break and work additional hours to meet targets! I am in the 40% tax bracket, not to mention 9% of your gross income is taxed as student loan repayments. I cannot afford to buy a home yet I am approved for a mortgage loan that I cannot afford to make each month and free healthcare is inaccessible. Where are my taxes going?
