Just tasted a sample from Master of Malt and went digging as to why this is not labelled a bourbon. Seems it meets all bourbon requirements except the last three years of maturation was in Scotland. Since aged, partially, outside the States, it can't be labelled as bourbon.

Late to the party on this review, but thought I’d check it out just as I kill my own bottle. A great succinct review of a vfm scotch 👌 Superficially on my part, I love the presentation in terms of bottle and labelling. More to the point, on tasting, I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the contents. I ‘get’ your tasting notes 👍 alongside a pleasant prickly spiciness running throughout. For me, an excellent, but ultimately relatively short-lived guard. And yes, MH at LL can do no wrong in my very humble opinion. Thanks for a great review, Vin 🙏

Tamnavulin does not actual use coloring in their products. Probably a good Idea to inveatigate prior to reviewing a product. Better than looking uninformed.
@NoNonsenseWhisky20 күн бұрын
Can you prove that? Because I would love to see evidence of no added colour in their products. Right now there is no such evidence to investigate (check your spelling so you don't look like a comment bellend)
@goodjuicewhisky20 күн бұрын
Im afraid you are mistaken... As Tamnavulin do not EXPLICITLY state in their marketing materials (or on the bottle) that the product is "Natural Colour", they almost certainly DO use E150a. This is a broadly accepted fact, and common across almost the entire whisky industry. Unless you have evidence to the contrary, that is... but if so you would probably be about the only person in existence to have such evidence.

Picked up a bottle yesterday...and it's terrible. A heavy flavor of salt overpowers every other note. I've never had a bottle with an overpowering salt flavor. This can't be right ? Did I get one with a leaky cork or do they usually taste like a decent bourbon, but with a cup of salt added to each bottle?

Great round up Vin, and a reminder of what a cracking set of bottles we've had through the year. The Slyrs was my favourite, but I do quite like a sweeter whisky. Howevert for me, I've tried several Lochlea now and have yet to find one I really click with. I can't quite put my finger on why, but they've all been just a little 'grassy' for me, still it was new to me and that's primarily why I joined the club, to try new things, and for the most part Dan hasn't let me down!

I’m only coming to this from a master of malt tasting dram, I was initially excited about this but in all honesty it’s a very peppery and undecided/disconnected whisky - in my opinion it takes too long to go through flavours after that light knackig crunch start, quite a mandarin middle with non existent finish. It’s trying to do too many things at once. Although I’m not too impressed by it, it’s definitely worth a try if you like very very light peppery/apple crisp finishes. Not terrible by any means, it’s nice to try something unusual.

I think I need to thank you (and/or whoever else) for wishing me luck with the whiskies I hinted at last time: I was successful in the ballot for the Elsham Wold Flarepath Second Release and a Kinclaith came in below my maximum bid, bringing my Scotch malt distillery total to 141, including 22 closed.
