If I was in charge of Loch Lomond I'd do three things. 1. Give Michael Henry a massive wage increase. 2. Ensure that all editions are Natural Colour and state it on the label, along with the cask types. 3. Completely revamp the artwork, removing the kitschy stag's head and cheap touristy look and giving it a craft-distillery quality look.

Couldn't agree more. The Loch Lomond Inchmurrin 12 is an absolute stunner and my second favourite core-range LL, only beaten by the LL 14, which here in Israel is considerably more expensive. Regarding Natural Colour, I asked Michael Henry about this a few years ago and his answer to why they don't state "Natural Colour" on the label is not his idea. It's a corporate decision just in case they decide to add some E150a to certain batches. It's just my personal opinion but I think that they do in fact add Caramel colouring to many of their products such as the standard LL 12 which has the same brown colour from batch to batch with no colour variations. Those editions like this one and the 14 perhaps don't need any E150a due to the heavily charred casks they use, ensuring a consistent dark brown milk chocolate tint naturally. It's the same for Glen Scotia. Take the GS 15. A descent whisky but don't tell me that that Irn-Bru Fluorescent orange colour is natural! I refuse to buy it because of that orange-aid tint. It doesn't matter how much of a genius Michael henry is with his casks if corporate ruin the results at the marketing end.

The Inchmurrin Aged 12 Years is from the Islands Collection and goes under the letter I and not under the Loch Lomond brands although Loch Lomond label is on the bottle. Inchmoan Aged 12 Years is the other Islands Collection which is the lightly peated version

I think they add colour almost to every loch Lomond and most of Glen Scotia. I had regular Lomond 12 and 12 ichmoan. I would love to try this one too. It looks like the best of 3. ATM it's 61€ while other 2 are 40. If price gets down, I will grab one 😊 thanks for the review and happy Christmas

When I first tried EC small batch I immediately noticed the initial bold flavors, but they grow on you the more you sip it. Works very well mixed with coca-cola. You still get the flavor of whisky in your drink.

Managed to bag a rare distillery visit and tasting there in May. Really exciting place and super liquid throughout. Rinsed a 14 YO and have rhe 18 opened on the shelf.

I'm sure it was amazing. I've been trying to arrange a tour for years but every time I give Michael my dates for visiting Scotland, (usually October/November) he always seems to be on holiday.

Had my eye on this one for a good year... something else always comes along and steals the purchase away... really should just pull the trigger. I managed to pick up a bottle of their 14 year for around 47 quid and while that one is so unique its defo not to everyones tastes... its a fantastic dram at the price and for me....

The trio of 12yo LL bottles are a staple in my collection. Each offering a different take, but the spirit character runs through them all. The higher age options are also great value. Slainte.

I admit to being a big fan of LL and find most of their stuff is an exceptional value. I especially like to find a high-quality whisky that is out there for a great price. That is a testimony to their skill and their desire to serve the market instead of prioritizing profits. I agree with your comments whole heartly. Thanks, Vin. And, thank you Michael Henry for all your stunning work.

Its difficult to find fault with Loch Lomond, all the 12 yr olds are great, the fire and smoke NAS is also great. im not sure if the fact they do so many different things holds them back or not. i have a few bottles open, a distillery edition and Roys 2 bottles. id also give a big shout to Independant botlings of Inchfad and croftenegea. Im not sure if the nobel rebel range is still a thing but i recently tried the hazelnut one and it was great.
@NoNonsenseWhisky2 күн бұрын
Probably the biggest draw back is its often difficult to remember what all the different names are for. Thankfully they stick it all on the bottles, but still, in a pinch I couldnt tell you the difference between an inchmurrin and an Inchfad

I got bored sipping it. Several times over several days. Unmoved. Then worried I was being unjust or the winter weather was blocking my taste buds or I couldn't remember this, that or the other. Opened a bottle of Talisker Skye, just had a sip. Holy Hallelujah that is some tasty whisky! And it lives on after drinking, in the long, long and lovely aftertaste and rather impressive fumes! I will now commit true and unforgivable heresy: Stiuireadair may be the world's best innocuous mixer whisky if you like your mixers super strong. I'd choose Black Label over this any day. And if I really wanted just a mixer or something to drink with ice & soda I'd choose an Aldi own brand Speyside or Islay and keep £10 in my pocket.
@julianhughes65114 күн бұрын
Bought a bottle of this in Sainsbury's for about £28, special offer Nectar price and all that. I think that's the lowest price around for a >46% non-coloured, non-chill filtered whisky so I had to try it. It's OK. It does feel round and viscous in the mouth. But in terms of flavour it's a little bit boring isn't it? Nothing bad, no faults, and this makes its strength deceptive and a little bit dangerous, in a good way(!), but for flavour I think I could have saved three or four quid and bought a bottle of Black Label or, for the same price, bought a bottle of Talisker Skye (usually on offer in one of Sainsbury's, Waitrose or Amazon but never all at the same time!) and enjoyed something a little more memorable. Maybe I'm missing something, perhaps my palate is too crude, but I think this whisky is nice but boring in a market where nice and interesting is available. It also just occured to me that I am drinking this in the evening, in subdued lighting at home, and I do not care if the colour is natural or not.

Interesting Vin. Out of all the range they had back in London they told me to try this later on and until now I completely forgot why but now I remember. Of course in the chaos of the show I forgot to try it later on but certainly if this is the first release from Sarah Burgess maybe she will lean a bit less on those sherry casks they've been so fond of. Let's see what will come out of the distillery in the near future. Cheers!

Got a number of their bottlings from my visit there last year. Lovely stuff even if the prices are a bit on the high side. Love the no6 and no7 too as a sherry lover.

The Lakes under new ownership and I hear have cleared out the old management on the non spirit side. So will be interesting to see where they go now with the sales and marketing. They’ve always given the impression they want to be the Macallan of English whisky. Hence north of £100 for something thats less than 10 years old.
