the book "why i'm know longer talking to white people about race", touches on the point of hiring black people over white people as a way to equal the playing field. Historically fewer black people in management and certain professions as a result of racism. For a good while black people kept getting rejected for being bus drivers in the UK. Racism is systemic, support each other.

5:55 The point on hiring one’s own over another person (such as a white person), also applies to business opportunities. So, for instance it’s better to take your own money to a black business, say a black tailor, even if they happen to be lesser quality at the beginning (within reason) based on skills level, service or something else, whilst encouraging them to improve over time. Rather than immediately withdrawing your money out of black businesses too early, without giving them time to improve (hiring better, better service etc) or enticing another black person to complete for that black capital. This is very similar to Gabe’s point on hiring a good enough black people and training them up, we need to do the same for black businesses. Great episode!!

It’s not nepotism but rather positive discrimination/mitigating circumstances which some employers feel they can afford to take risk on such individuals. Contrary to racist attitudes, the candidate always meet the criteria but just lack a wee bit of experience (fine tuning). Nepotism and tribalism are the biggest factors behind the dire economic situation of most African countries (a set from external actors). I believe Uncle Gab (I prefer Cousin Gab 😅) touched on this awhile back.

I prefer when it is divided into 2-3 uploads. Not keen on consuming all at once. Binge watching really ruined our ability to digest contents in small chunks. It’s better and more engaging imho

I heavily appreciated the discussion about working to give back to others and honoring your mother's legacy by naming things after her, it was inspiring. God bless, and keep up the great work!!! 🙏🏽

Conversations like this are so needed. Just some food for thought. As they rightly said, the average can be massively skewed by bigger numbers in a dataset therefore using average to assess something like UK wage isn't the best form of analysis. In reality, the mode is a better representation of what you're trying to see which is "what do most people earn in the UK" which 3 years ago was around £23000 pounds
