Good to see you bud. Sounds like your year has continued to be one trial after another. Praise the Lord, He is your portion! Complicated games… you hit the nail on the head with Labyrinth. I was very late to the game with it, having only picked it up as a filler during a GMT Fall Sale a couple years ago. Even after literally a thousand plays of Twilight Struggle, Labyrinth was TOUGH to wrap my head around. Fields of Fire, same! I’m a Marine, but that’s been no help lol. Well the new update kit should be arriving soon so I’m looking forward to trying it again. So I guess the most complicated game that I actually have some knowledge of playing might be the Operational Combat Series from MMP. I’m not very good at it, but it’s fun to play the tinier scenarios. Playing… mostly computer war gaming. Wargame Design Studio (WDS) took over the old John Tiller HPS games, so I’ve been enjoying those, mostly Squad Battles Modern War. Tabletop games, a bit of Warhammer 40K Kill Team. My son has taken it up and teaching me how to play. Reading… just finished The Savior Generals by Victor Davis Hanson. It’s about those great captains of history that have turned battles and wars from a losing cause to a win. Starts with Themistocles during the Greco-Persian Wars, and ends with General Dave Petraeus in Iraq. Starting to read Mark Herman’s book now. Watching… well cycling season has restarted, so been watching the end of cyclocross and getting ready for the Spring Classics. Praying for you brother!

HEY! The year has been... a winnowing year for my soul, and one that I think the Lord is using to teach me to 'get real' about Him. I'm glad I'm not the only one that had Labyrinth struggles. As for Fields of Fire, I always thought my civilian lack of understanding was the root cause, but perhaps that's not entirely it? :) I agree the upgrade kit is substantially improved and am excited for it. Between John Tiller Computer wargames, and Warhammer tabletop? Sounds like a nice little renaissance of gaming! I'm impressed. The Savior Generals is now in my Amazon queue, thanks for the info on it. Curious what you think of Mark Herman's book. I've really enjoyed it, though some of its a bit hard for me to grasp. Sorta like his games. But I appreciate his downhome humble approach to it, and am learning a few things. Cycling season. Someday you'll have to send me a pic of you in action. I run twice a day now, two five mile runs... and am enjoying the cardio and the way it helps free and clear my mind. God bless you, my friend. Love hearing fromyou.

Hi Tim, great to hear from you, sorry for the bad stuff that happened. Ah, Fields of Fire, I gave up on that one and sold it. Other tough ones are most of Mark Herman's games, but well worth learning. Since the weather has been dreadful here since the New Year, I've played more games than usual (all solo). A new one to me that I had fun with is The Reckoners. All the best from gloomy Europe!

Hey, there. Thanks, man. I appreciate ya. Fields of Fire... man, what journey I've had with that over decades, but ... recently I've discovered an impetus to dive in to it. But yeah, super super high hill to climb learning wise. That stinks regarding the weather there. :(. My friend from England had some super high winds the last week or so that knocked her fence over, and in general sounds not much fun. :(. I hope some rays of sun start peeping in. Oh, the reckoners. What do you think of it? I've seen it and looked at it a bit, but never quite bought it. Is it pretty good solo? Stay safe and may the sun start shining. :)

Sorry to hear about the job situation. I went through the same in 2023. Just take it one day at a time. Your a smart guy and will get something. Life is funny sometimes wanting to challenge us in many ways. I can understand how the holidays and beginning of the year is rough, time will heal all wounds. The last three weeks have been like winter. Had 2 storms with 5 inches of snow each, which has all but melted now. For that period of time we had lows in single digits or negative with highs im teens. Now it feels like summer with highs on the 50's. Looks like we may have swapped weather. Complex game.... Due to the poor struck or lack of information in the rule book Marvel Champion. I played this last month so disorganized and lacks some important information. Still prefer Legendary Marvel.... Good to see your son in law is into gaming and 2045. When I had it, modified the rules so I could create my own baseball league. Very fun game for sure. Labyrint by Gmt. Played this digital. Was okay for me. This was one of my first coin experiences. Not going to any gaming cons but doing a comic con this summer. I've gotten back into reading "used" comics. Weird right. I also enjoy seeing the youngster dressed as their favorite character at these events. So far I haven't purchased anything in 2025. Not purposely, but I haven't seen anything new to excited about. Think I'm hitting my gaming Plato. I'm keeping a few on my radar for this year for wait and see. Don't see much that's really exciting for me this year. Do what makes you happy in these challenging times. Things will get better. Stay positive. Stay awesome. I think it's always good to take breaks... see you in the next video I will always be here. You and your family take care. 🙏 PS. Hopefully your using steel shelves to hold all those games. Have you ever considered selling any you don't care to play or your a collector and just keep them?

Love this game! It's like it was made for my tastes. I didn't think of it but your comparison is 100% true. It's like playing the first turns of Civilization. And that's my favorite part of that game so of course I love Rise & Fall! And fyi, the designer of the game has been critical of the publisher and saying sorry to the public about the handling of the game. The publisher hasn't been respecting the designer's concerns. So I'm going to keep supporting the designer (Christophe Boelinger) but not when it's with Ludically, the publisher. That being said, I really hope that the game becomes more widely available. It is a gem and I'm afraid it'll be mismanaged into darkness.
@hairbrainedgames31277 күн бұрын
I applaud Christophe for being vocal about the publisher issues hampering this game (in a previous KS of his, A Dog's Life, he wasn't vocal as the publisher took off with the money and never delivered, so I'm glad this time he spoke up about the issues). I think this game would be hugely received by a large audience, and agree with you that it's in danger of not getting the chance it deserves, honestly. I've already had 10 people on BGG pinging me to ask if I'll sell my copy, which is pretty unheard of in my experience. Maybe Christophe can either get the rights back to it and find a publisher who'll due it justice, or maybe make a second evolution of the game and take it further. It really is unique and deserves some praise. Thanks for your thoughts!

What happens if the token lands directly in the middle of two properties? If I land on railroad three times do get to move to three properties?
@hairbrainedgames3127Ай бұрын
If you land on railroad three times, you move the tokens to three *unoccupied* properties. As for the token landing directly in the middle, the official rules say to count it towards whatever space most of the token is over between the two. But that doesn't cover the situation where it's absolutely in between two spaces equally, and they give no recourse for that in the official rules. Some house rules and variants will just have a reroll occur. For me, I took a pen and made an arrow on all the flicking pieces. Whenever (and only when) a piece lands between two spaces equally, the side the arrow is most pointing towards is the tie breaker. There's still a chance that the arrow is also directly parallel to the line, but it's a much, much smaller chance of that. My solution works pretty well for us and doesn't create extra rerolls.

Another great list with some new to me games. Will have to checkout downfall. In 2024, I have majorly scaled back on the heavy games. I played Nucluem multiplayer and solo. My preferred method is multiplayer as solo is like managing a second player. The AI has its own set of rules and flow chart. Since this would get very limited play multiplayer due to low interest in economic style games I gave my copy to a friend. I will at least get a few plays during the summer when we meet up. Right now I'm taking a break from Uwe and Suchy games. I played so many by these designers and feel a break is necessary. Weird I know. Ever introduce Long Shot to the family one summer this has become the game of choice by the family. It's fun when playing with those who enjoy horse racing. This year I decided to watch some PWHL hockey since they stream on KZbin for free. It was definitely a different style of hockey, but fun to watch. I'm happy to see my team the Capitals are doing very well. Is this sustainable? If you look at history, no. Thanks for the recommendation video. Was going to ask in your last video if you were going to do a series this year. Here we are. Take care. PS. I was able to get Monumental from Amazon very cheap. My logic was if the game wasn't appealing I would have alot of cool miniatures on the cheap. The copy is still on the to be played shelf. Will definitely get played in 2025. Good to hear some praise for the game.

Heya! I'd be curious when you get LOTR Duel how you think they compare. In some ways, the original has some things I still prefer, but other things I like the LOTR touch. Taking a break from Uwe and Suchy? Gasp! ;) Just kidding. Totally get it. I took a Stefan Feld break for awhile, and then Stefan Feld took a Stefan Feld break for awhile LOL. Civolution is meaty, I'm getting that going pretty soon. Long Shot is still great! Did you play the full game or the dice game version? I like them both. As for PWHL I had no idea that even existed, thanks for mentioning it. I'm literally watching Minnesota versus Toronto on my other screen right now. Thanks for the tip! " It is a shame how the publisher has mishandled things, they have missed a real opportunity to gain a larger audience for this game." That is probably the best one sentence summary of it, less rant-y than my thoughts for sure! I agree, and in the past few weeks I've become less acutely annoyed about it. You're right. Missed opportunity, but the game itself is highly enjoyable. Thanks for your comment. :)

@hairbrainedgames31272 ай бұрын
Heya again. I'm kind of on the fence at this point. Great game, but the learning curve was a bit jagged. Great videos from the designer now help kinda of 'set the stage'. It's definitely more interesting to me than the more narrative sub games (where you kind of just roll dice and the game takes you wherre it will). Much more decision making here. I, Napoleon is a slam dunk hit, by contrast. :) I DID get Red Dust Rebellion. I have it on the 2025 list to play. I set it up, read the rulebook on the treadmill, but then it got eclipsed by some other games. How about you?

It is so bothersome when the learning curve throws off your enjoyment of a game, but sometimes it can't be helped. We have a 9 m/o trying to walk around, so I've come to appreciate lighter titles of late... Enter RDR, lol. I did p500 it. I've been working on the rules this weekend. It is my first COIN game, but I'm glad I got A Gest of Robin Hood to pave the way a bit. I think the game makes sense, and it helps that the game is thematic. Unfortunately, for the time being, this will be a solo-only game for me, so I've got to digest the rules for the bots and hopefully find the time/space to run through it. I'm hopeful, though! It feels like a home run. The other one I'd like to try this vacation is Reef Project, but we'll see.

Heya! Yeah, I was commenting on another comment about the same thing regarding Wolfpack. The rule book is very good *once you know what's going on*. Unfortunately, not being real up on the sub warfare tactics, I did get admittedly a bit lost. The designer has a couple very good videos that have filled in the gaps for me so I understand it better. Once things start clicking, the rulebook, playbook, and player aids rapidly expedite the learning and they are well organized references. I am yet to get snow, only the big windstorm that obliterated us for a week (but I was left far far less damaged than nearby regions. I count my blessings). Oh man, 50/60 degree weather sounds dreamy right now. Not the 90 to 100 I crave, but still... Keep safe. Christmas season is upon us!
