i just lost in epee HARD, im talking 5 - 0. my problem was that the epee blade was too heavy for me. so i couldn't move around that much, which lead me to attack less. but after watching this video it really helped me find my errors and areas where i can improve on. obviously 1 area to improve on is to strengthen my arm, but also the strategy where romain lunges at them and baits the parry out is just so amazing, i could really implement that in my style and it would probably be successful. thank you for this case study!

I take much of my style from Cannone, and have noticed the same vulnerability in my own play. When I first watched this bout I was eager to take notes on how Cannone would adapt to this problematic style... Needless to say the outcome was not what I was hoping for!

Solution: Have smaller screens close to each back line which show time. These screens are slaved to the central screen. Also, they have a reciever for the remote. That way, the ref can get close to the action when it is near the back line. At the same time the ref can both see the the true time and stop the clock with the remote if the back fencer goes behind the back line. All that without having to move focus to the middle of the strip, or having to worry that the body of the attacking fencer will obscure LOS for the remote.

Completely agree with that call! I have personally handed out one yellow for delaying, in all of my years of reffing. As you say, it is not a common card.

Text of t.56.10 "Hit made during or after a fall must be annulled."
@petergustafsson167013 күн бұрын
Definitely disagree. After FOTL has passed, FOTR turns around - and then pulls back his arm *before* straightening it for the extension that causes the single light. Two arm motions after the hit, fist bending and then extending the elbow joint.

Thanks for this. You're right but it's not two feet *off* the piste, because that would mean every springing up in the air by a rassemblement or sabre flunge would be annulled. It's crossing the boundary if the piste with both feet; whether or not those feet are touching the ground. It's ambiguous paraphrasing that sometimes gives rise to widespread misapprehension of a rule

I had money on Frelich but I think he’ll choke early, it’s a big tournament and he fences best relaxed no worries, no big deal.

I agree with "almost" everything except Siklosi over Freilich. Also Minobe over Borel (calling it first). Limardo over Middleton. If I eat my words, I will be back <3

This is probably the latest you could possibly call a touch after passing, any later and McDowald would've had to make it a two piece action.
@romanista774 ай бұрын
Disagree on this one. Fencer on the right missed the reposte. The halt should be called when the fencer leaves the strip or passes. The fencer on the right only started the final action well after where the halt should be called. Definitely no touch.

No touch... Right delayed before beginning the reprise of repost...
@erkocab4 ай бұрын
I can see how you would make this call in real time - yet on replay it seems as if McDowall unsuccessfully attempted one reposte and what he hit on was actually a remise?
@The-Fencing-Coach4 ай бұрын
Everything that happens in front of McDowald doesn’t matter. He could miss ten times in front and it’s all good. Once Sanders passed, McDowald hit with one clean motion, one clean tempo.
@dontflyspirit65354 ай бұрын
@@The-Fencing-Coach does he have to begin the action when they're side-by side, or can he begin the hit right after the pass? Also what do you define as pass? two feet both past the 2 feet of the other fencer? or bodies past?
@romanista774 ай бұрын
As a three weapon referee, I’ve often heard people say Sabre is the hardest to call. But, some of the toughest calls I’ve made have been in epee. The conventions are less known or non-existent. And you can spent huge amounts of time relaxed, then suddenly need to be very focused for a tough call.
@romanista774 ай бұрын
Yup, good call. It’s tough to call halt at that point. Unless you can’t follow the action anymore. But, as you could follow it, it’s definitely the right call.
