I'm always so sad about the quality of Afghani and Pakistani rabab. The instrument isn't lacquered. The pegs aren't lacquered. The pegs don't fit in the holes properly. The sympathetic string posts easily break. The place where the strings attach on the bottom easily breaks. Compare them even to a cheap Indian sarod. The pegs all fit, the holes are drilled properly, the body and pegs are lacquered and the sympathetic string have metal grommets impossible to break yet NO ONE makes rabab this way. Rabab has gorgeous sadaf but it's on a dried out piece of tun wood. The sound of rabab is superior to other instruments but I can't find a decent instrument anywhere.

ok i want to buy my first rabab and idk anything about it i just don't want to buy something that costs me a lot but isn't right or good quality. im from Pak tho so it wud be easy to find any. im picking up a used one for now so olx might work, so what should i look for while buying is my question. Many rubab are not varnished, the pegs don't properly fit the holes, and the pegs are carved too sloppy. Sarod pegs always look better than rubab pegs and fit properly. There's no good reason except laziness. I hope yours are better.
