I had a cd called Rock Goes to the Movies that had both this and Crumbling Land on it. Loved this version of Careful! CD had several tracks including a nice Dark Star jam by Garcia. Kid destroyed it a lotta years ago but it was great listening in my prime.

How remarkable.David, (in this photograph) looks just like a friend of mine that also has since passed. Just remarkable! Love this recording too 😆 🤣 😂 I thought David also recorded "where are you going with that ax Eugene " along with some bluesy music with his dog..... ? Just thinking is all.... 😆 🤣 😂

In those days, Ozzy would sing on a riff, making up (often) nonsense lyrics in the studio just to get the melody idea sorted. These lyrics probably originate from one of those sessions.

This is from a live bootleg album! I was at an acid party like 34 years ago and the guy had this album; of course i put it on! Oh man it sounded it good. This is the first time I’ve heard it since and remember it like i just heard it from that party. The recording is awesome for a bootleg. This may have been the original lyrics 👍🏼 So awesome!!! I remember watching a PBS Special hyping this show (as part of a fundraising special) where the host called it one of the best performances ever by the Who. Sadly, it probably doesn't even make the top 100 list, but still, they suck all the energy from the crowd and make it amazing nonetheless despite the unmistakable decline in one of their key members and their obvious lack of practice. They'll never be another like them.

I always thought "come in Number 51- your time is up" was a (much) better title than "careful with that axe, Eugene". "Number 51" gives the song the feel of a science fiction dystopian nightmare (1984, Logan's Run, The Island). With "Eugene" however you think guy-with-hockey-mask-n-chainsaw-chasing-people-at-summer-camp...

I always interpreted the big, explosive scream as Eugene accidentally cutting his own finger off with an axe, having been unable to hear the whispered warnings...
