Nice video mate! Love the videography, you obviously put a lot of effort into it! I live on the wye at Hereford, been struggling a bit this year. I’ve been using coated braid for years for the abrasion resistance and size 6 hooks big baits. Going to try scaling down pretty sure it’s what I’m doing wrong! Thanks mate given me the confidence to try a different approach ☺️

Really pleased to see Alan testing the sharpness of his hook on his skin and not on the nail as we can often see, way better for the hook point👍

That reel looks a little sad , & line looks low on spool , but hey if it’s not broke doesn’t need fixing! Personally I think to many people change line unnecessarily so due to pressure from tackle manufacturers, on you tube! LOL , good video apart from an unmentioned certain river that is the biggest & best 4 barbel !

Thanks for the comment. The reel may look a little tired but it's still going strong after many years.

Lads, not the time to be putting barbel fishing on the map 👍 we got barbel floating downstream in the northwest because of idiots catching barbel in hot conditions.🔥They are a member of the carp family but they connot take the heat of summer months.. Probably best mentioning these points in your videos. 👍

Thanks for your comment. It's worth mentioning that this film was shot a number of weeks ago. If you flick back through the film you can see that Alan is wearing a fleece in a couple of scenes, which reflects the weather conditions during making this film. If we had any concerns over low D/O levels and the welfare of Barbel then we would have not made the journey.

@@TargetSpecimen I get that n that's fine but releasing it this week is a bit out of order as the rivers are on there backsides 😑 just saying m8.. I've fished For barbel exclusively so ino more about the species than Alan does.. Not saying Alan is a noddy but more so the people who make n post the videos. 👍

Great video and lovely barbel, I’ve been trying to catch barbel on the River Thames with luncheon meat but just wasn’t for me. I’m planning on using a running ledger rig with a fluorocarbon hook link with a boilie as hook bait.Is that okay? Any tips are appreciated

Hi @Governor, glad you liked the video. The rods I use, are an old set of 1.25lb Grauvell Specialists, sadly they don't make them anymore, but any Avon style rod of around that test curve would be ideal for them.

Great Video and wow wow wow..what fish.... can I ask a question?...... given the evolution of carp fishing... especially the welfare of the fish has come in recent years.....do you think its time to move on from snap tackle that can deep hook even the most experienced angler...and perhaps champion ,if not experiment with single or possibly double circle hooks ? After having experienced a very traumatic deep hooking experience,I came away from fishing for them for a few seasons, but now have been encouraged to start using circle hooks as a much safer way of fishing for one of the most sensitive fish in our rivers and lakes .....your thoughts Alan??

@TargetSpecimen
@TargetSpecimen 11 ай бұрын
Hi Wayne, thanks for your comment. Our Hydro Tuff main line that Alan uses breaks (with a good knot) above the 12lb breaking strain that is stated on the spool. It's a very abrasion resistant line and able to deal with hooking large barbel and carp that inhabit many stretches of the Thames. We hope this helps!
