And Scotland? Having spent nearly two years living among them I can say: The Scots _fight_ all the time. It's as if each was born with the creedo tatooed to her forehead: *"I **_fight_** therefore I am".* The Scots have at least forty different words and phrases for _fighting._ They range from a _"wee tiff"_ all the way to an _"outright brawl."_ This time it's _"bloody determination!"_ Muir _fought_ the whole of the second half of the race. And when the home-stretch came beneath her feet, she _fought_ harder, sprinting those remaining yards. Muir left it *_all_* on the field. Good one Lass. *_"May th' rroad rrise up to meet you!"_* And it did at that! Regards.

Peter Coe modernized middle distance training. You can’t run sub 1:41 jogging 100 miles a week and then 6-8 week build up on the track. Seb Coe never ran over 50 miles most weeks.
@OldCoach842 жыл бұрын
Middle distance generally refers to 800 metre to 10,000 metre races. Training for the 800 - 1500 is generally lower total volume and higher intensity than the 5000-10,000 races.

They ran Sub Threshold/ comfortably fast run training up to 1hr- 1 to 2 x a wk in the 10wk Marathon Conditioning phase. They didn't just jog. 3:45/km was their mon or sat pace 16.1k 1hr 3/4 Effort / Strong Aerobic effort slightly slower or at their tapered /peaking respective marathon pace Modern scidnce puts it in the 75-80% heartrate reserve. Karvonen method.

Peter had been an engineer & used a complex micro/macro system, & a combo of methods from the best coaches. He used a stopwatch & constantly worked on all aspects of Seb's endurance . 😁👍

As a competitive runner for fifty years I used his training methods from cross country to the marathon. All of the basics of Lydiard training are the foundations of programs today. I had good fortune to hear him talk and it was very entertaining!

Seb Coe did not do liddiard’s training and did hills, weights, plyometrics, intervals and kept miles to 50 miles a week max. Coe won 2 Olympic 1500m titles and 2 x 800m olympic silvers + 12 world records. His coach peter Coe said liddiard was old hat and you need to develop an athlete with quality not slow jogging. Peter Coe’s methods are now used worldwide by middle distance runners EL G from Morocco king of the mile ran 60-70 miles a week max only and lots of intervals on the track like 12 x 400m in 55 seconds with 1 min recovery. Coe ran 8 x 800m in 1:55 with 1 min recovery You can’t run sub 1:41 in 800m or sub 3:28 1500m with slow long running. Yes endurance is a base but speed endurance is needed for the races. I believe peter Snell if he did peter Coe’s training would have broke 1:43 I was an 800m runner myself and a state champion and beat many runners running 80-100 miles a week with only 30-40 miles of quality intervals at multi-tier training system of 10,000m 5000m pace, 1500m pace and 800m pace repeats Things change
