You call those mountains? Hahaha! (Colorado native, here. Sorry about that, but your mountains don't even qualify as foothills where I come from.) Be well.

I am visiting the grand tetons for the first time in a couple weeks. I am planing to do some hiking but I am absolutely terrified of bears, I am so scared that I feel like it will ruin the hiking experience for me. Any advice? We will be only 2 people hiking in late September

Hi Madison! I think it’s pretty normal to be nervous about venturing out into bear country, but you certainly don’t have to be so worried that it ruins the experience. Even in a place where they’re prevalent like the in Tetons, it’s still fairly rare to actually see one. A bear isn’t going to hunt you or jump out and ambush you out of nowhere or anything like that - most attacks happen if they get startled or feel threatened. Still, bear safety is important and you’ll want to be prepared. You’ll see signs and info posted all over the park reminding people to be “bear aware” with some tips on what to do and what not to do. The biggest thing is to just simply make noise while you’re out hiking (just having normal conversations as you walk is good enough) so that you don’t come up on one and startle it. And sticking to more popular trails where you’ll be surrounded by other people will help too. I’d also recommend carrying bear spray while you’re out hiking. It’s not likely that you’d have to use it, but it’d still help give you some peace of mind. I brought my own, but I’m sure there’s places in the area where you can buy some or even just rent some for the duration of your trip. And if it’d make you feel better, you can always talk to a ranger and they’ll be able to give you even more bear safety info The park is amazing, and it’s absolutely worth it to go and see it for yourself. You’re going to love it!

albeit small in comparison to say Yellowstone, absolutely one of the most beautiful parks ... been there 3 times and can't get enough ... great times sharing it with your brothers ... and a great video

Thanks! And yeah I feel the same - I could probably go back, spend another whole week there, and still have a totally new & different experience
