For a change, it's good to hear that someone appreciates what the military has to offer. I loved it and I served for 28 years achieving the rank of CSM. When I started, I had no clue how it would end, but it was the best decision of my life because I earned 2 master degrees on the government's dime. With my retirement pension, I'm taken care of for the rest of my life. I don't have to work if I don't want to. I don't have to stress over things that most people have to like life insurance, healthcare, housing, etc. The best thing about it, is that I'm fairly young and I can enjoy life on my terms. If I were you, I would reconsider joining again and retiring with a pension, it's worth it.

It’s a reflection of society, laziness and a lack of accountability is all too common in both military, and civilian life. You mention heart disease to someone obese and you end up in a room being counseled about your language (specifically in civi life). You cannot have pride in yourself, and your unit/organization if you don’t hold each other accountable. And this goes for shit like insubordination as well.
@icy3004
@icy3004 20 күн бұрын
This is the issue I see a lot, it’s literally everywhere, including religion. The ones who need to be held accountable aren’t being held accountable but the ones who make a mistake here and there get destroyed. It’s nuts. My thing is that people get use to nothing happening in terms of honest and true accountability and then when accountability does come it’s seen as wrong or unjust.

@@Zac-ft7id I mean it is sad to see. Seriously. I can personally speak from the "religious" background. No one is ever held accountable for the BS teachings that are being put out. The teachings may help a few people but they end up causing a ton of collateral damage for others... yet these guys see nothing wrong with it. And when someone does try to correct the BS teachings, the people trying to correct them are wrong too. It is wild... may God have have mercy on his people.

This is so true but then there are people with some serious issues that must be addressed that people over look due to a bunch of “boy who cries wolf” situations. Never once did anyone say anything to me about it, reprimand me, or hold back promotion, why? I knew my job. A lot of factors go into this, yes there is a problem in the military but when someone doesn’t pass a PT test they get flagged (bar to reenlist) they get counseled and usually do remedial PT they have 30 days to retake PT test if they pass they move on.. they don’t they get enrolled in the fat man club and get their diet watched and then continue remedial PT. And retake test 30 days later.. some people are just big boned if they score 540 or higher on test they do not have to be taped. All army reserves and guard have to do height and weight every six months and if they don’t pass (bMI) fat man club it is and age has a lot to do with it standards are not the same for a 19 year old and a 40 year old

The military's rate of suicide is five times higher than the regular population. That is clearly an indication of a depression/mental health problem. Common ways of dealing with depression are overeating and alcoholism. It doesn't surprise me there is a weight problem. And going to the gym? What? After a ten and a half hour day I'm going to go to the gym? And immediately wake up the next morning for push ups, sit ups, and a few miles of running? When do I recover and make gains, living like that? I'm out now and I LOVE going to the gym, outdoor cycling. I HATED regimented platoon PT. It was the most miserable part of the day.

Never understood why people like you had these expectations of a military organization, like you never looked at their lifestyle before joining up and seen all of this? The military normalizes things that should not be normal, but that's built for a purpose and usually it's to make sure you don't break in a real situation. Suicide rate in the Military is very high, however the data is skewed because it's one of the highest stressing jobs you can get. It's not for everyone. And that's fine.
