I wouldn’t recommend misleading people by claiming “you can bake NSP and Monster clay in the oven”. I mean you can soften or melt them, not bake them. Also, Sculpey doesn’t turn into garbage if you leave it in the sun. Even the driest polymer clay can be revived with some baby oil, granted it’s a pain in the ass. Other than that, useful information. Would be nice if you did a comparison between Sculpey Living Doll and Super Sculpey Original.

There is no “best”. As someone in the trade for 35 years, it’s whatever clay works “best for your project”. And I’ve used them all in 35 years from WED clay to Monster clay etc….. But, my go to is either Monster clay Medium or Chavant NSP Hard for the most part, especially for detail.

You make gelatin with gelatin ? I was kind of expecting that you would have deviced a simple method for hydrolising collagen from animals. I thought the cat was for that. Iam disappointed.

Casteline and Relix are good wax based clays. I used Casteline for a bit, but since have moved to Relix. You can build figure without metal armature and Relix when room temp is hard like plastic. Relix also uses vegetable wax and bees wax so non toxic. Casteline is petroleum wax based.

I need to make a fake gelatin leg from the knee down. Can you help me determine the amount of ingredients I'd need for that?
@lemonstealinghorsdoeuvre
@lemonstealinghorsdoeuvre 2 жыл бұрын
Put a big bucket down and fill it completely to the brim with water. Have them put their leg in it to the knee. Water will pour out equal to the volume you will need in order to cast the limb. You can either put the bucket in a tub and measurewhat comes out, or just measure the water you need to refill the bucket to the brim. If you don't have a tall enough bucket, you can get the flexible cutting boards from the dollar store and hot glue an extention to the top of the bucket. Be liberal with the glue, you don't want leaks or it will distort the volume. Divide the volume by 7, and you get your ratio. So one seventh is one part. 3 parts water, 3 parts glycerin, 1 part gelatin. If you don't need to see inside of it, you can put filler inside like a thick wood dowel for the tibia and fibia. If you want it flexible, use foam for seat cushions with some plastic wrap taped around it. The foam can be wrapped around a dowel for maximum economy. Just don't forget to measure the volume of rhe filler the same way you did the leg, then subtract the filler volume from the leg volume for the proper volume of ingredients. Good luck 👍

If you can get Hydrocal or Ultracal plaster the setting time is much faster. I can usually demold in about 40 minutes. Also hot water will soften any oil clay and aid in removal

Hi! I have a question! I wanted to cosplay, and in order to cosplay my character, I needed hooves. But all of the artificial hooves are SOOO expensive! So I wanted to make my own. I would sculpt the hooves and then apply them to the bottom of a pair of shoes! What kind of clay would be firm enough to step/walk-around on?
