I know it’s for the plot, but scientifically, couldn’t they just use her fingerprints? Or was she so damaged that the fingers were too damaged? For some reason I was like, “dental” but she has no head! I’m a CJ major.
@DIYCSI4 сағат бұрын
could totally use finger prints, but you can only compare them IF you have a known example, which being a teen she wouldnt have given prints unless arrested for for a job. then you would move on to trying medical devices which have serial numbers but if she hasn’t had any surgeries then you would be left with dna from bone marrow which is super pricey to send off so often left to last resort.

if anyone doesn’t know the context, this musical is about six teenagers who died in a rollercoaster accident and are now in a competition in limbo to vote on who will be the one brought back to life. this character, referred to as jane doe, lost her head in the accident and nobody came to identify her body. nobody, not even her, has any memory of who she was.

Her vocal performance is obviously incredible, but I think Emily Rohm deserves just as many flowers for her physical acting. Even before shes doing air-acrobatics, her movements rarely cease being uncanny and unnatural. Her head is jerky and almost disconnected from the rest of her body in the way it moves. She's stiff in most instances, standing stock-still while her head moves in an almost bird-like fashion. It's like something unsuccessfully trying to imitate human movement, but in a way that's more curious and childlike than sinister. Jane Doe is creepy, yeah, but looking at her I never fear once that she may be dangerous. It very well conveys the idea of a living doll, or someone who's completely disconnected from their body and humanity, but in a way that feels specific to the character instead of just being generic "creepy girl" fare.

Lyrics: Some might say we're released Pushing daisies, deceased But we all know the worms must be fed There's just one lingering fear Oh, my soul, is it here Or is it rotting somewhere with my head? Oh, my soul Oh, my soul Oh, my soul Oh, my soul Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh Ah-ah Ahh-ahh-ah Oh, no soul, and no name And no story, what a shame Cruel existence was only a sham Oh, Saint Peter, let me in You must know where I've been Won't you tell me at last who I am? Who I am Who I am Who I am Who I am Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh Ah-ahh Ahh-ah-ah And from the ground, beneath my feet I hear the anguish of the street (A choir never complete) And like an old forgotten tune A song that no one knows Forgot how it goes Just John and me Forever eternally, Jane Doe And I'm askin', "Why, Lord? If this is how I die, Lord Why be left with no family And no friends?" (Ooh) I've got no celebration Just this consolation Time eats all his children in the end A melody floats through the air When silence falls, does no one care? (Does anyone care?) Another sad, forgotten tune Another song that no one knows So that's how it goes Just John and me Forever eternally, Jane Doe And she's askin', "Why, Lord?" (Why, oh why, oh why, oh why?) "This is no way to die, Lord!" (No one to sing, no one to sigh) Now that all is said and done Isn't there anyone to tell me who I am? No singing songs of celebration Just this sorry speculation Like John, I'll be eternally A forgotten name, some lost refrain Just "Jane" Jane Doe

The thing I love about this song is how much emotion it conveys through lyrics and vocals. During the first verse, she just sounds sad. In the second verse, she sounds desperate. In the ending bit (idk if it’s a verse or what) she sounds upset and angry at her situation. Love it so much. Also this song has my favorite background vocals 😊 Sorry about my Ted Talk theater/choir kid analysis 😅
@Matheus-ql7mn15 күн бұрын
First of all, great TedTalk 😅 And agreed I love how she sounds contemplative at the first part, like she's meditating about the tragedy of life. At the "Oh no soul..." she starts to reflect on her own tragedy and kind off beg for something to give her the answer. There's a little sprinkle of humanity on her at "And from the ground...", like she's trying to find some memory, anything, but it's still a bit distant. It's only at the second part ("And I'm asking why lord...") that there's emotion on her voice, like she's really lamenting her fate and revolting a bit with her situation. When we got to the second "why lord" she's almost in desperation, and at the end, after all this, there's a very human sadness on her voice. It's hauntingly beautiful.

i don’t know ANYTHING about Ride the Cyclone, I heard Noel’s Lament and this one and I love them already, and that’s the extent on my knowledge. but i noticed that (as of where i’m at, 2:50,) Jane’s movements seem mechanical, almost? and she doesn’t remember anything about herself, right? all memories wiped, leaving her with.. nothing. people move differently depending on their personality. someone might be confident and barely hesitate, while someone else might keep their limbs close to themselves and withdrawn. personalities are formed by your memories (at least, to me), so Jane’s movements being sort of smooth and mechanical might be another way to show how she has no past, no memories enough to even figure out how to move. ..or maybe that’s obvious, idk anything about this (amazing) play lmao
