Without taking anything from the heroic acts of Russian people, the horrific amounts of casualties were caused not only by nazis, but terrible living pre-war conditions taking its toll; and also the total disregard of the lives of many of their soldiers, sent to death without equipment en masse to overhelm the enemy, where there was no retreat - those who did; were shot. That also added to the terrible numbers of lost. In any case - no denial to Russias efforts and achievements in the war, just feel the need to mention wider context of the Russian part of the job and the toll it took.
