I'm not gonna egg on Skylar for slipping up. I've seen professional broadway trained singers fail this song in more ways than one. It can be difficult, but he kept it going and did his best and I still think they all did an amazing job.

No one sings this song like Bernadette Peters, but Ms. Lupone came close here. Peters sings through a veil of tragedy, I think that's why she's so affecting.

First time I actually got this song. She’s the best. And I loved her Marian. So there. And she was perfect in Anyone Can Whistle.

Sutton is such an incredible interpreter. Brings songs you've heard a million times (especially comedic songs) to life in ways that you've never heard them before.

While this is amusing, what's more entertaining is her performance of this song playing the Baker's wife in the Hollywood Bowl's production of "Into the Woods" a few years ago. In the 2019 production, she plays this scene against a droll (funny) Cheyenne Jackson. Guess who else was in that production?.

This is nice. Good to see Ms. Lupone maintain constraint during the song. I think she does a much better job with "Anyone Can Whistle" from the 90th birthday video tribute concert. A pretty stunning, touching, flawless performance. This video cuts off before the most touching part of this performance. Patti starts walking off at the end, but she's actually walking to the gentleman who played the cello during this number and gives him a long warm gracious handshake. A very nice acknowledgment from a supposed "diva"?

Just as Patti has done this with Len Cariou and a few others, it's entertaining watching her have a fun old time here with Brian Stokes. Patti has truly "blossomed" since taking on Sondheim's music.

This is one of the unexpected highlights from the 90th birthday celebration video tribute. This is one of the benefits of having this tribute be virtual instead of live. We would have likely not been able to see this performed in front of an audience as close up and nuanced as it is here. This is the first time I've seen this song performed as the late-night boffo number that it is supposed to be. I've always thought this song was a filler, just to give the character something to sing. Elizabeth here, sings it like she means it. The gorgeous voice doesn't hurt either. I was dazzled when I first saw this a couple of years ago. She NAILS it. Brava.

There have been a few clips (hundreds probably) capturing Patti Lupone's performance of "Ladies Who Lunch" since she inherited or adopted the song from Elaine Stritch. This performance has to rank among her best...so far. Flawless.

Thank you for your posts. Getting chills hearing it again. It was truly a memorable evening. Video unfortunately, can't quite capture the essence of the event, but at least it becomes part of a growing collection of documented brilliance of the man honored.
