Its his favorite movie because he looks down on people he calls dumb. Why do you think he is rich.

I also like the chopsticks being Red. The representation of his desire to be freed and to seek revenge. Ended up being the largest trap of them all.

He's not wrong. Network is to film what Dark Side of the Moon is to albums. It's even aged slightly better than Lawrence of Arabia. Edit: oh $#it! Typed that before hearing Floyd's "Money" on the video!

If only Carrey's politics weren't so esconced inside the Hollywood bubble. He doesn't understand the middle class whatsoever. He can't understand why people who aren't extremely wealthy liberals love The Donald so much. Like most elites, he thinks he knows what is best for us, like eliminating the police, like not stopping riots and arson and massive shoplifting and illegal drug use for all because liberals think regular people can just be left to their own devices when if you don't come from a stable nuclear biological family you feel tremendously lost, like the Biden "family". Ironically, at 9:02 Howard Beale says "nobody ever gets cancer in Archie Bunker's house" and I think a year after they kill off Edith with breast cancer.... Chayefsky was such a marvelous writer but somehow all the credit goes to Sidney Lumet, the director, while it's the script that is so great! Lumet is, admittedly, a fantastic director. ("12 Angry Men") but the scripts are what made these films. Now it doesn't feel as though there is a single sentient being thinking of new ideas and thoughts, like POTUSA Brandon's staff, who are at a loss, so much so that his rather weird son is actually running the nation....

Holy shit, Network is such a great movie that it pretty much deserves a genre of it's own as it really can't be pigeonholed into drama, comedy, parody, mockumentary though at times it is all of these things.

Why not credit Paddy Chayefsky? He wrote the screenplay Network. He had final say on the movie.

You're not the first to mention my lack of attention to Paddy Chayefsky, and given the substance of this video is more concerned with the narrative and themes of Network rather than film asthetics, I understand your frustration. At the time, I was overly director centric in my analysis. Many audiences only associate great films with actors, and if we're lucky directors, and if we're incredibly lucky writers. Hopefully people see your comment and are enlightened. Take care. I appreciate you.

Awesome video! I still think there is more to the colors tho. I believe green moreover represents truth in some way. This can be seen when Dae-su finally remembers what he did to Lee, while he wears a green hair cap, also inside Lee's mansion where everything is green and is where the whole truth is laid out to him, and the green laser as well pointing to the box.

Love Carey..but by God .. I am soo tired of 'Millionares' telling people that they 'Suddenly' realised exactly What they have been selling..they'd been selling 'Out'. This film Exemplifies this point. Jim saying "u don't need the money!" Course u do Jim. You EARNED ur money. But at what cost?

I will ALWAYS be aware of the deceptive farce that "Entertainment" truly is to us. I also will ALWAYS recognize how that farce bleeds into our so-called "Reality". Hence, Cult/Spiritual leader Teal Swan, merging TWO female characters from 'Network' into one which I witnessed while watching final episode of a doc called "Deep End" surrounding her CULT. When she watches her former partner Blake leave the group with his new love, I swear...Swan looked and acted EXACTLY like Max Shumacher's wife AND mistress simultaneously. Manipulation which they fully expect will go unnoticed.

I've watched an awesome interpretation of this movie where its entirely political because Dae-Su means the one who goes by his day which is the average Korean at that era where Police are absent from any interference and the only thing people rely on is personal vendetta. Dae -Su gets locked up for 15 years where in these years alot of events occur like changing the corrupt regime ,9-11 where America exploited South Korea to join the war against terrorism and finally big corporations eating Korea like "Samsung or in the movie 'Evergreen'. Dae-Su doesn't know the right questions because he is seeking vengeance only against a guy that he wouldn't have known about since Lee is from a rich family or someone who will inherit a corporation where there was a deal involving millions of dollars taking a place over a phone call without paying attention to it . Lee is wealthy that he can control everything and buy simply anything like People ,but since his pride is overwhelming he couldn't handle the rumors surrounding his sister's death therefore he let her go to die in the river . His revenge was merely a class struggle between the corporate man who owns Korea basically and with an ordinary citizen who had the courage to "talk alot " meaning criticizing him even so Dae-Su didn't know that it was his sister but because his pride that poses the idea that Dae-Su is an ordinary citizen that deserves the worst fate possible he made him suffer this way . Park Chan the director of this movie is genius because he wants to explain that vengeance, hatred and this situation in Korea is what stops it from achieving any quality of living because of this he created a scenario to teach us that only social equality is the key to happiness ,otherwise the people will have to endure the same fate as Dae-Su choosing to forget about what happened to him and Lee the wealthy man realizing that it was his fault that his sister had died so he shot himself . about the colors based on what i remember is that red meaning Dae-Su is falling for vengeance and he is choosing wrong(Mi Do sex scene ) ,Green symbolizes the act of vengeance where Dae Su is preparing for it or heading towards it (the hallway fight and him running towards Mr Park's building) and Violet is what triggers it (lee always leaves boxes with the color Violet or when Dae-Su is hypnotized ) .

Betta look fo the next gen Jim Carry. My favorite movie was also 'Network,' You take that and try to associate with slap-stick, you ain't right in the head. But we've all seen that he, Jim, aint right in the head. Hey Jim, You read these comments? I challenge you to a 'Fact Off.' I bet that you can't prove anything you say--but more importantly, you just go silent when you hear the truth. I just a little guy. I do local clubs. And I make fun of people like you. You ain't got the facts, bro.

"Network" (1976) is Paddy Chayefsky's Magnum Opus., although I do enjoy "Altered States" (1980) as well. I first saw "Network" in a cinema in Western Australia in late 1976. I went with some friends to see "Two Minute Warning" with Charlton Heston but waited for a fresh batch of popcorn & then walked into the wrong cinema. I was a genius+ IQ 13 year at the time. I found the perfect seat & forgot about my friends. I soon realized I was in the wrong cinema but once the narration started, I was hooked. My favourite sci-fi film is "Forbidden Planet" so narration hooks me well. I was amazed... "Network" is still my #1 favourite film today & I know IT verbatim. My #2 is "Altered States" which I equated in 'real life' many years ago, without the nonsensical 'evolutionary crap'. The book IS much better! As for this video, Jim Carrey has at least Prostate cancer & a couple of other cancers to fight. Look at his 'sunset' aspect of his pupils & irises. He will be gone before 2025. I will NOT miss him & his mostly awful films.
