We do have a serious recession, but the calculations being used today do not match those from four years ago. Basically every month there is an official set of numbers, and the next month they are recast.

Another unexpected aspect of the UK leaving the EU is that Brexit could, ironically, ruin the Conservative party. I say ironically because it was the Conservatives who promoted Brexit and asked for it. I say this because there were a lot of very talented Remainers who occupied positions in the govt, but when Johnson became PM he ousted all the Remainer talent and only put in Brexit idealogues- and then, of course, these less talented politicians messed everything up and decimated the Conservatives reputation. Now they will lose the next election. Perhaps this is the ONLY Brexit benefit that has occurred.

The total market value of all equities in the US as of 1/1/2024 The total market capitalization of the U.S. stock market is currently $50,781,697.5 million (or $50.8 trillion), (Jan 1st, 2024). Per the SSA www.ssa.gov/oact/NOTES/ran1/an2023-1.pdf the unfunded liability of SS-OASI and SS-DI is $65.9 Trillion. To make Social Security as a whole, it needs an additional $65.9 Trillion today which is far more ~30% more than the entire market. So their plan is to some how deposit this year$65.9 Trillion into the trust funds. Where does the other 29.77% come from? Now if this amount is not added this year, the unfunded liability increases by about 5% compounded. Just a quick back of the envelope calculation shoots their proposal down ,,,,,, unless they intend to confiscate every individuals assets and then some making each worker dependent on the government. Social Security decreases generational wealth. www.justsayno.50megs.com/ss.html

Having researched, analyzed and modeled Social Security, I have not found a solution. Ok, that is not totally true. A negative wage growth of 17% a year for 40 years will solve the Social Security Financial Problem. Why does this work? SS-OASI is a mathematical divergent series. As wages change, so does the future SS-OASI benefit calculated at age 60 (for everyone) changes at the same exact rate. If wages this year rise by 20%, then the initial SS-OASI benefit at age 62 will rise by 20%. Conversely, if wages this year drop by 20%, then the initial SS-OASI benefit for a 62 year old (benefit indexed up through age 60 .. takes two years for SSA to analyze and calculate a full years worth of data to calculate the Average Wage Index) will be 20% less. Thus, a negative wage growth will decrease the SS-OASI benefit year after year until the program reaches equilibrium with wages and benefits. The SS-OASI benefit is not based on taxes paid, but on wages earned. There is no relationship/correlation between SS-OASI benefit and SS-OASI payroll tax. Thus the SS-OASI benefit could be zero% of 100% and the scheduled SS-OASI benefit would be identical ... however, the Payable benefit could be drastically different. I was asked to testify before President Bush's Commission on Social Security in 2001 after a lengthy well detailed problems facing SS-OASI. For each 1 year increase in retirement age, it takes 2.5 years to recoup the time value of money, additional taxes and collecting one less year. The increase in 1983 in retirement age more than offset the increase in Life Expectancy age age 65. Raising the payroll tax by eliminating the cap solves just 49% of the problem. Raising the payroll tax means workers pay more for the same bad deal. How bad is it? Anyone born after 1983 can at most see 29 cents on the dollar in benefit including interest on their payroll taxes. The actuarial payroll tax for a fully funded SS-OASI program is about 7.0% to 8%. The payroll tax is easily calculated by knowing the number of average workers, the targeted SS-OASI benefit (~40%) and the number of average beneficiaries. COLA being slightly less than wage growth, results in a slight amount of work (Wage growth [taxes] - COLA [benefits]). The payroll tax under current variables will be unable to fund 100% of SS-OASI. My model in 1984 after the big fix showed 2036-2037 and held steady until the US Treasury Rate began falling. The SSA has a good www.ssa.gov/oact/NOTES/ran1/an2023-1.pdf I would love to see your assumptions and model.

Supposedly “non partisan” CEO perspective, are you kidding me? The whole frame is false. It is indicative of a bubble these two are in. The one gentleman touches on this in the first third when an investor directly asks why he trumpets ESG. Ultimately shareholders must come first. Everything else is noise. What do racial audits have to do with the bottom line? No. Let the politicians handle politics and business handle business.

That he so completely fails to intellectually take in climate change is astonishing. Maybe that is what I would do, too if I were his age, though. Or it is just hard for a historian to imagine something of a new qualitiy playing in. But there are many historical examples of empires collapsing quickly because of relatively minor climate shifts - as well as examples of empires that overcome such changes. Many geopolitically important changes, such as the opening of the northern passage for shipping, are already here and the race for the arctic and generally the northern lattitudes will be intense. But that will probably all be after his time.

I am not sure how this is being missed by all of these people, but here is an insight from a consumer, employee and a small time investor all in one person. I actually support the ideas in ESG also, as in, I am all for improving the environment, improving equity among the earth's population and improve governance to make it all more fair and better. But if you observe what the push for ESG has done in practice from a consumer standpoint it looks something like this : - Everyone pretends to care about the environment, lectures me as the consumer about it, while they themselves keep polluting. - Everyone pretends to care about equality, lectures me the consumer about it, while they themselves keep discriminating and giving out unfair advantages to the elect few. - Everyone pretends to care about fair governance, lectures me the consumer about it, while the same people are still in power under the same structures with maybe a few diversity hires who are ussually just there for show. - All my products decreased in quality and increased in price. - I get bombarded with the exact same social, environmental and governance talking points EVERYWHERE. My work, the bus stop, the movies, social media, video games, television, my bank, my baker, the super market, book store, you name it, no matter where I go it's the same thing...meanwhile nobody is actually doing anything that produces visible, tangible, positive change. They just all virtue signal and shout about how socially and environmentally aware they all are, while doing the exact same things they did before, but now at a higher price tag with lower quality. The reason that someone like me, who actually supports the ideas of ESG in concept is strongly opposed to these current practices is very simple : In practice it is all fake pretending. And at that point I'd just rather have them do what they do best, focus on making money and raising stock values. If you're not going to actually do ESG to tangible, visible levels of improvement and only pretend to do it while raising prices and lowering quality as well as returns, then just don't. PS. As a member of the LGBTQ community, I have also experienced an increase in homophobia and a decrease in social acceptance for gay people as a direct result of ESG pushing. These companies don't do anything, but they lecture the customers on mass about LGBTQ and the customers on mass associate these messages with me and other fellow LGBTQ folk, and they start to hate us for it more and more. So please, either actually do it, or stop. This virtue theater is fsctually causing the opposite effect. Less equity, less fairness, less acceptance, a worse environment...like come oooooon.

As a consumer, I am sick of ESG as well and so are most people I know. I just click off of anything that even mentions that stuff. Because in my real life experience it only ever means worse products at a higher price that barely take my desires as a consumer into account. The politicians that are giving the push back are elected officials and respresent large swats of the population.

Why zero in on only Medicare? What do people do when their insurances go up? People on Medicare do the same. They either pay them or they don't have them.

Or, you know, they can stick to delivering the highest return to their shareholders and the bottom line. What ESG does is it distorts a company’s core focus onto a prescribed set of decidedly left wing progressive values that are not part and parcel to a company’s core mission. No massaging this can evade that basic point.
