Ralph did some artwork for the he man 1987 movie. They were never used but they are online. His vision of Castle Grayskull was truly nightmarish!!

An aged universe??? Try a fucking Western

They mean that it looks used and lived in. In Westerns the old towns are lived in, like they've been there for years, that's the Star Wars universe. And yeah, Westerns, sci-fi serials and WW2 films were what inspired Star Wars to begin with, Tattooine and The Book of Boba Fett are based on Spaghetti Westerns like The Good, The Bad & The Ugly and Gunfight At The O.K. Corral.

Yup, McQuarrie was a genius. Full stop. So much of Star Wars is his aesthetic. I met him in person a couple of times and he was also a very nice person. Soft spoken, but passionate about design and clearly a one-of-a kind talent.

I bought two Funko Pops of Ralph's version of Vader and a stormtrooper. I love how they both have blue lightsabers. Thank you, Ralph

I always loved the Ralph McQuarrie designs better than the final SW designs. The Stormtroopers with Lightsabers with/without shields made them much cooler. Ralph, R.I.P. :<

22:35 Well, alot can be seen here why things went wrong after the artist that tried to follow in his footsteps went wrong: The characters in clone wars look redicules and very Disney like. It's so easy to see the mistakes they made. To many objects in one picture ,no axes, no dynamics in the lighting (look at the sunset light at the horizon not shifting as it does in McQuarries painting ), bows that give dynamics, just take a look at the arrangement of the figueres and their shadows. And then the faces. :/. R.M. characer faces look interesting the other ones do not. The copie charcters are all static looking. There is a REASON WHY C3-PO, Kenobi and Luke shift their weights slightly to one side, to one leg. That gives them a sense of departure and a sense of uncertainty that shows their vulnarabilaty but also their will to move on. This is touching me as the viewer! (Remember Luke, Han, Leia and Kenobi were always on the run.) Somebody who admires McQuarries work should be able to see this, but these episode 1-3 / clone wars guys didn't. If one don't know about the mechanics of a compostion better leave it. I wished they have taken Syd Mead (R.I.P. )for the prequals. He would have been adequate for that job. Its also a pitty that in this "Tribute" we only hear opinions (A little bit of ball lickin' is ok but that's to much) about a great artist but nothing about him. No facts, no research how he acheaved his work, nothing about his work for Boing, no comparison to styles or other artist he's been influences by. I am a big fan of R.M. and would like to see a good dokumention about his work and the human behind it.

His work reminds me of a steam punk version of Syd Mead's work. Two of my favorite artists.

Ralph McQuarrie paintings - truly magical!! I had a set of these as a kid when ANH was the only Star Wars we had. Being only 9, I tried my best to emulate his talent (and of course, I failed). But that is the magic! Inspiration ... imagination ... a child’s perseverance in the face of reality. Here’s the thing - if you see a PHOTO or still from ANH or ESB, you can quickly place that shot and you knew EXACTLY what came right before and what would follow. But you look at Ralph’s paintings ... there was definitely enough for you to make the connection between Ralph’s art and what finally came to life on the big screen. But, there was enough DIFFERENCE in the vehicles, in the characters, in the clothing / costumes, in the weapons ... I could go on and on. The point being -there was enough difference that your imagination could compose an alternate story for the vehicle or the world or the figures in the painting. Magic. Incredible talent. Thanks, George, for hiring Ralph. And Ralph - thanks :)

If it's one thing you learn the older you get... no matter what you do in life . If you make folks rich off your actual product... and its continuous wealth gain.. people 'sweat' you till you die. Mess up the money flow.. they treat you like Tesla dude now... harsh/ sarcasm. IF IT DOESN'T MAKE MONEY YOU DON'T EXIST. And talking about money, all the young business savvy artist want to know did he become wealthy or was he just paid 1970's $50.00 per comcept art and treated like the McDonald's Brothers Zero percent off the movies. It's a mystery if he died having 1 million in his bamk account. Shhhh secrets of the industry. FAME NO MONEY?

Today I learned that everything I loved about Star Wars was the work of Ralph McQuarrie; everything I hate was the work of Rian Johnson, JJ Abrams, and George Lucas.
@rickytoddbotelho95556 жыл бұрын
You know I've read Ralph was a aerospace engineer. Not just a comic book artist. Those good ol' boys were a closed set. I'm worried now that a bunch of foreigners running Disney might forget about American ingenuity and try and take things a little too far. If they've grown to a huge Disney 'empire' growing at an alarming rate and the only ones holding out so far is DC and Warner is it possible that an evil empire is growing under our very footsteps like something out of a galaxy far, far away. That worries me very, very muchy. Humans are a peculiar lot. Too many factors to try and out think with animatronics.
