I might've been spoiled by living on the cusp of Eden Prairie and Chanhassen before moving to Golden Valley. It's not as crazy or chaotic as Minneapolis itself,but there are certainly more peaceful quieter suburbs in the twin cities to live in. I also find that people are obsessed with working on their yards, whether it's mowing or spraying pesticides that make me feel sick. You can smell it in the air, because they spray that poison like it's water (Eden prairie uses way less pesticides or lawn fertilizer junk). The air quality is not as good either as a result of all of that and the amount of construction here too. Therefore, there are times when I go crazy from the alk the constant chaos here. Overall, there is a lot more construction here in Golden Valley than there was in Eden Prairie, like everywhere practically you will see multiple construction sites within a few miles of wandering through Golden Valley on a regular basis, whether someone is cutting down trees in their yard or getting a new roof put on their house, there is overall a lot more construction and choas around here with people constantly working on a home project or in their yards compared to Eden Prairie, Chanhassen, Chaska, or even Maple Grove. You'll notice it if you try to go on a peaceful walk or bike. However, the people are decently nice and there is a ton of cool wildlife around here that I didn't have in Eden Prairie. However, New Hope/Golden Valley area are not that animal friendly (which the wildlife rehabilitation guy was telling me one day. I saw the vehicle with the wildlife rehabilitation number on the van and the guy was checking up on the animals in the park, so I wanted to ask him a few questions to help the animals and sadly this is what he told me). You'll see a lot of road kill sadly. However, I do love seeing the turtles, butterflies, and water fowl life there. : ) and the people who see Me regularly at the stores here in golden valley are very sweet to me, and I've even had a few generous people randomly help me or pay for a 10 dollar purchase I had or something which is swanky too. So there are definitely dandy aspects too.

I am actually moving to my new place in Minneapolis this January. So, apparently the universe made this pop up in my algorithm for a reason 😂. I am relocating from Houston, TX to Minnesota. I have always wanted to lesve Texas ever since i was a teenager. So i zeroed in on everything I'd want in a new destination and Minnesota ticked all of my boxes. This is my first big move and will be my last one. So i am expecting to love my new home 😊. I am looking forward to the big winters. I want to see the seasons change. I cannot take the regular occuring natural disasters that are ubiquitous in Houston anymore.

This street was featured on the cover of a magazine, I believe Traditional Home, just before I moved here in 1980. I drove over and checked out the area. I did later meet a couple who lived in one of the houses and was so disappointed that the interior had been gutted and looked like a 1970s apartment. No remnant of its Victorian past remained inside... sheet-rock, vaulted ceiling, wall-to-wall carpet, no character at all.

What a great video and Matt and Erin did a fantastic job describing MN and CA. They are right about CA, expensive, crowded, high crime rate, transient lifestyle, high density housing everywhere and it is always hot and sunny ad nauseum. It makes me want to move to MN this week! I checked out Erin's website and she does, indeed, have very nice high quality items. In CA, we do not have basements...why are basements even needed in MN?
@MarySchumann
@MarySchumann 29 күн бұрын
Hi! Thanks for watching- Matt & Erin really are awesome! I’m so grateful they agreed to give their story. So … basements! They aren’t REQUIRED, per se. Although in extreme weather you may want an appropriate place to shelter from a tornado. They are actually WANTED, people love them! It’s an entire additional level of living space (or interior storage), we often have our utilities there and laundry. Many people have a family room, bathroom, extra bedroom down there. Many people that move here tell me they would love to have one! And my answer is usually- good luck NOT having one! Most houses do have a basement. Let me know if you have more questions! Happy to answer and thanks again for watching!
@suemilkbone4868

@@MarySchumann Thank you for your comprehensive reply, Mary! The only people in CA that have a basement are people who use them as sex dungeons or are serial killers. 😄 Seriously, they do sound very practical and I would use them to sleep in in the summer because I assume a basement is cooler than the rest of the house. BTW, Matt and Erin look 15 years younger than their ages. Maybe living in MN makes one go back in time. 😊
@MarySchumann
@MarySchumann 29 күн бұрын
😱 😂 watch out for basements in CA! I admit to sleeping in mine when it’s peak of summer, it’s cooler AND because we are so far north our days are very long in summer and the sun is up by about 5:30, so this lets me sleep a little later too

MN has a reputation as a very family friendly state- the governor has made that a priority here with a focus on schools and supporting people with children. As far as the generation that is still employed, we are home to 15 Fortune 500 companies and have a very diverse economy, there are a lot of small businesses here too. I have other videos on my channel about living in MN that you may enjoy watching or sharing with family. I’ll add a link to a playlist that may have some info for you in the next comment

I'm one of those 19k that left in 2022. If you look closely at that 1% that's leaving, it's your highest earners. When Minnesota exchanges people making over 400k for people making less than 30k there's going to be problems - losing 25k of taxes per tax return leaving is devastating if it continues.
@MarySchumann
@MarySchumann 2 ай бұрын
hi - thanks for watching and commenting. I can speak to what I see and the people that I have helped move to MN are all far above average wage earners. I believe the median home price for my clients is at least $200K over the area median. Depending on the year and the interest rates that are available between 25 & 50% of my buyers are paying cash for homes ranging from second home / condos at $200Kish up to $1.4 Million. They are all educated professionals that are coming here for better jobs or because they can choose it and work remotely from where ever they wish. I know that ALL kinds of people make choices for ALL kinds of reasons, but I don't believe that there can be a blanket statement that the people moving here are making less than 30K. If you make that little you're going to have a hard time moving anywhere at all, you'll likely have to stay put and scrape.

I don’t think they are any more hazardous than anything else- I would assume less since forced air furnaces can kill you with CO

I’ve lived in Minnesota all my life my husband and I are prime age about 30 and 33. I completely disagree regarding the dismissal in the difficulty of making friends “it’s just what you put out” is completely false. I have met tons of people in Minnesota with my dogs or othrrrwise and Minnesotas love to extend friendship but then ghost, it will be their idea that you two should hang out, when you fall for the trap and say sure , they always make excuses or never show up. It’s essentially friendship ghosting. To assume that people have issues making friends just because they aren’t being friendly is completely false. Minnesotas love to waste your time and talk to you for years, literally if they see you around say at the gym, but they will never show up if invited. They will literally waste hours trying to talk to you only to not want to take it further. It’s extremely weird.
