When sending MIDI data to this device, do you find that it responds in a musically nuanced way to the range of MIDI note-on velocities?
@Art_Thompson
@Art_Thompson 3 ай бұрын
If properly set up to the particular piano it is being used on it will. Because I use it on a variety of pianos I have the dynamic range limited to a very narrow expression. Most of the stuff I play doesn’t have much if any dynamics anyway. On most of these solenoid systems, in the settings, one would set the minimum velocity to where the note barely strikes, and the maximum to whatever you think the piano will tolerate without breaking something. When this is done, as the master volume is raised, the dynamics increase, and if the volume is reduced they are compressed.

I especially like the warning that says "don't drop in lifeboat" We just had two of them donates to our museum ship. Now to figure out what to do with them. The military museums near her are most ly Army themed.

I own one of the little II/2 Wicks "production" instruments (Gemshorn voiced as a Spitz Principal, and a unit flute 16-2 foot). It came from the factory with the pipes voiced on 2-inch pressure. I sent all of the metal pipes on this instrument to have the c. 1996 Wicks open-toe voicing changed to normal coned-in toes, and have the flues nicked a bit to get rid of the "trash". It's a nice little practice instrument. FYI, it's Wicks' Opus 4654, 1966.

It ended up with us. We are employees of Artisan Instruments/Organs in Seattle. We removed the organ in 2012 and installed most of it in our home. It was there until 2015, when we brought some of it to North Carolina, and the rest went to Salem, OR.

@Art_Thompson
@Art_Thompson 11 ай бұрын
Yes, it appears from the specifications of your organ that you can. It does not explicitly state that the stop data is transmitted through MIDI, but I assume that since you can record a song from the MIDI out, I believe that it is. The Artisan micro midi relay system that I used can be programmed to route the key and stop data to the pipe action. While it would be preferable to activate the pipe stop from the console, and maybe be able to also deactivate the electronic voice in the organ programming, you can always play an external rank, or even an entire pipe organ just from the MIDI out.

Mind makes that exact same noise I'm pretty sure it's normal I believe it's an anomaly that has to do with the injection timing I don't think they time to these engines for optimal power and performance they timed them for optimal fuel economy Anyway they all make that noise so if it means there's something wrong then there's something wrong with all of them
@Art_Thompson

That is pretty much the conclusion I have come to. (Pre)Detonation in a diesel can mimic a mechanical noise, and since it goes away under heavy load, that is probably what it is. Yes, the engine is definitely detuned, they had to keep it at 25hp or under to not have to equip it with the emissions garbage. When the warranty is done I might adjust things a bit, I have the Cummins specs for all the power ranges and applications for the A1700, it is nominally rated at 37hp. I wrenched my way through college working as a diesel and heavy equipment mechanic.

Hello Jon! Well, I’m kinda old these days too. This is an ancient Allen organ I rescued from Anchorage First Baptist. I was going to use it to control one of the pipe organs I rescued, but it is massive and probably wouldn’t fit in too many places. Nowadays I live in a small native village in rural Alaska where I serve as an independent missionary.

Looks like a very well-done installation. Such a shame some old fuddy duddies didn't understand its value and disliked it so. Where did it end up after it was removed? Also I'd love to see the other videos you have of it playing in this location if possible. I remember at my high school years ago I would imagine what it would be like if a small theatre organ was in our school gym: it's such a great acoustical environment for these instruments.

Thanks. This time it wasn’t my boomer peers (who seem to want to destroy everything that came before them), but a bunch of GenX snobs that didn’t want to be bothered with it. The organ was rescued by Mark Anderson, who used it as the core for his studio instrument.

I highly doubt this is handplayed, if the chords are rough then it's more likely it's a rougher master like the late Ampico rolls by Frank Milne. If you send me the midi I might be able to make a better judgement of the roll. Also, are you sure this is an Atlas roll and not a reproducing roll? This sounds like a Frank Milne Sherry Brothers duet roll from the late 20's.

Thanks for the information about this radio. I actually have one of these that I’ve been trying to find information on. Is there a source for more info? What would you value these at?
@Art_Thompson
@Art_Thompson 2 жыл бұрын
There really isn’t much in the way of documentation out there, I have seen an operating manual from time to time come up on eBay, but that is about it. This is no longer legal to use as life safety equipment on ships where it is required, and it is not practical to repurpose for any other radio application. Thus, as far as value, perhaps a couple of hundred USD to someone who thinks it is cool. These are not rare, and most of them that were made are still sitting around somewhere. I have been trying to find a museum ship or maritime museum that would want this, however every one I have contacted already has several of them.

The organ is very small, with only two ranks or voices. There is just an 8’ bass right now, mainly due to the lack of ceiling hight. I plan to put a sampled 16’ bass on it at some point as I don’t want to miter, or cut and attach at a right angle, the ends of a good straight set of 16’ bass pipes.
