Globalism supports this view, but outside of ethics, one has to reject the idiosyncrasies of each religion to make this work, thereby stripping each religion of its essential nature.

You keep asking questions... Could religion this, could religion that? But you don't stop to see how you already answered your question. Religion is a type writer that has been replaced with newer better technology. But like many things it will still leave a mark. In this case QWERTY.

no. Ive never desired for god even as a kid, if i never desired of god in my whole life then other people may have also had the same experince, so no, not all humans desire god. Its more of a "tradition" because of our past ancestors believing in god and yearning for it so most people probably do yearn/desire for god, but as a whole not every single human desires for god.

So you’re saying God and reason actually go hand in hand? Yippee, we’re rediscovering what literally every European nation knew prior to the 18th century!
@drummerdog5463 жыл бұрын
This video takes leaps and bounds in logic that just... They aren't warranted. You are saying things are rooted in God, simultaneously not saying what God is but also not giving a reason this is true. You have said you want dialogue yet give none of your own. Debate is useful because at the very least you are able to argue with what the other person is saying. It is nearly impossible to say anything against what you have said here however. You are using nothing speak. You have basically said "But what if desire is actually God???!?!?!!!111" but you haven't justified that point whatsoever

I know this is kinda old, but like the idiot I am, I want to add my own thoughts. While it’s great that your attempting to do this, and maybe I’ll be wrong and this will work, I don’t believe that science can answer this. The topic of whether religion is good or bad is a very case by case situation. It can break families apart, control the mindset of hundreds, and be the cause of horrible things. But religion also brings people together in close-net communities, can effective for organizing help for a cause, and can become a way to motivate yourself to be good (though this mainly applies with religions that have a good and bad afterlife). Science is simply to systematic to be useful. for example, you could quiz people on whether religion had a positive or negative effect on your life. However, the results can’t actually give you reliable results. Those who say religion helped could be ignoring negative factors, and those who say the effect was negative could also be information biased. Science is used for a number of amazing uses, but this doesn’t seem like one of them.

This may be an idea however it doesnt help make Religion anymore useful.If this adaptive Religion could remove all the negative part of any Religion be it Christianity or Islam then this idea may help but it must also make it so that people that leave their religion arent suppose to be killed or hunted.Just because a religion is adaptive doesnt solve the main problems with said specific religion

If dialogue is the goal, why then holding on to the idea of deities and not finding a better explanation that can actually unite people. I mean, by simply postulating that atheists still seek a deity you are denying them there way of how they experience the world. And what reason is there to assume that this desire is indeed pointed somewhere, many aspects of our emotional psyche is not really anchored in reality, so why should this aspect somehow be an indicator of the idea that something wholesome is out there?
@so-wow3 жыл бұрын
Agreed, I like the idea of this video and that it's trying to start a dialogue. But it does in fact seem to be denying some people's beliefs and pushing the fact that the "desire/longing" for God is in everyone's minds whether they want to believe it or not.

Can you empirically find your way to God ? Can you empirically build relationships of substance? Can you empirically lead your family in a direction of salvation. The book of Revelation is the nearest empirical descriptive of how God will judge us all as we have entered into the end days. For those who believe in one God of the universe we appreciate more than most the importance of knowledge not just knowledge. For myself I want to know my fellow man more for sure, want to help him understand the whys of life and the way to everlasting life! God blesses those searching for answers but the answers are not far! In fact they exist right next to you...

A beautiful idea -- science and religion in context. The biggest barrier in this area is *_egoism._* Over the last 70 years, I have studied many religions and many sciences. There are some interesting patterns that overlap the two realms -- the spiritual and the physical. I write about them in a number of my books. Scientists study the products of God's creation. Their focus is on a subset of the whole. The wholly religious focus on the other subset -- the spiritual and its relationship to the soul of man. Where there seems to be a conflict between the two, we have a misguided interpretation of one, the other or both subsets. This is simple logic. Belief systems (religions, scientific fields, governments, etc.) are frequently tainted with egoism and egoistic certainty. Only with humility can we make solid progress in any and all realms of human existence. Yes, they are part of the problem. With a lot of problems, they are the root of the problem. Even if well-intentioned, religion leads to a mindset that you have to take certain things on faith, which is a dangerous mindset to have, since it leaves you open to being deceived by the malicious (see: extremism). Get rid of all religion and give as many people as you possible can, at the very least, a quality basic education, and you will see a lot of problems just go away with consecutive generations.

Religion is obsolete, there is no question about it, religion fuels intolerance, it amplifies cultural distances. There is no need for it anymore. We don't need gods anymore to explain why the sun rises everyday. God has been pushed by science further and further into irrelevance. If you want to talk about stuff that in the end won't turn out to be true, then get involved in philosophy.
@tempestive14 жыл бұрын
Absolute BS. Science makes *no truth claims* . It presents the most approximate models of reality given the *available datum* . Religions generally *make truth claims based on anecdotal or insufficient evidence* , and anyone who understand the nature of evidence realises that. "evidence and arguments have a role to play"? LMAO. Religion, in whichever shape or form, relies heavily on faith. But with faith you can believe contradictory things: "Allah is the one true God" / "The Christian God is the one true God" / "universe farting pixies created the cosmos". Faith, believing without evidence, is *NOT* a reliable path to truth. Science is a self-correcting method developed on the accumulated knowledge of rigorously controlled conditions and tests. Not iwthhout its flaws, of course, but still our most reliable tool. Religion and Science are *mutually exclusive* . Which is not to say science can't have anything to say about what we experience when we call somehhing "spiritual". Those experiences are real. Assuming anything beyond that is fallacious. As is thinking religion is compatible with science.
@RodMartinJr4 жыл бұрын
Even the definitions of science talk of better and better *_relative truths._* So, you're wrong on that point. Some relative truths are more true than others. So, in the end, science is aimed at Absolute Truth, even though it will never arrive at that location. And therefore, in the context of science, Absolute Truth is a vector or direction, rather than a destination. I highly recommend you read Thomas Kuhn's book, The Structure of Scientific Revolutions. Evidence is not always so clear-cut. And too frequently ego gets involved, as with the Clovis First dogma.

I'm sorry but 0:39 Extremism is caused by religion. Religion caused several wars. Religion caused a lot of bias. Religion has caused a lot of intolerance particularly of gay people. Religion has caused most of these things in 0:39 and it's NOT a force for good. You don't need religion to be a good person and have a good society. Most countries with a lack of religion are working pretty well.
