I think farewell doesnt deserve the hate. If your decks needs 5 turns to get back online and actually do something , u have a bad deck. Or had a bad draw

I think the problem that most people have with either farewell or Armageddon are misplays. A lot of time in Commander somebody will Make a bad play because there really isn't that many options. This leads to games that take way too long. For instance I played a game or somebody cast farewell picking all modes because there was no other choice for them they're bored was going to keep getting wiped so they leveled the playing field I think it was a misplay because ultimately everybody else had more mana than them. If somebody cast farewell and then when's the next turn I'm fine with it but if you cast it and take 6 more turns to win I'll think of it as a mis play

Farewell resets the boardstate while leaving players manabased intact. Armageddon does not affect the boardstate it resets players manabases. The problem is when a player plays Armageddon and cant win the game quickly everyone just has to sit there and wait/hope they get more mana on board. Armageddon doesn't encourage the caster to win quickly because you built a deck around it, you can rebuild at your own pace knowing your opponents are going to be struggling. A conventional wrath effect does not invite this same play pattern. If you wrath the board to try and win you have to do it soon because it's so much easier to recover from. Players don't mind this because they have things to do, instead of having no way to actually play the game 10 or more turns into a commander game after someone resolves an Armageddon. that's the problem.

Armagushould not be played unless it displays your wincon. Any other time we gonna kick you off the table

Big thing is because Armageddon is destroy is that unlike farewell it is not permanent, and if someone is playing Armageddon they're playing lad recursion, no other deck has land recursion unless it's part of its thing, and farewell resets board states, not the game, you still will always have access to your mana from lands, which tends to be turn 6-10 when farewell is used, it's the way they're used not the actual effect that changes the outlook on the cards

"I want everyone's decks to do their thing 😊" is a lie told by 90% of commander players to get to do their 2 card combo or build their giant token army without interaction but doesn't stop them from stopping other people from doing their thing.
