It's great - and rare - to agree with so many posts on a single thread. I was only 7 this year, but, well remember the struggles of my parents to retain a half-decent life for us kids on, usually, a single wage. They did bloody well, all things considered. I had no complaints whatsoever about my home life. The last school they sent me to, though, was another matter. 🙄

I think our people are starting to understand, it’s better to be poor amongst your own people, than poor in modern Britain.

In the 14th C the average man worked anout 14 weeks a year and enjoyed a high standard of living. Usury, genius and hypergamy never hurt anyone.

ITV made this. ITV MADE THIS ☝🏼 Society has been dismantled from within. For example, Jon Pilger slowly marginalised during the course of his life. Don't ask; Don't care - The new Group Think

If contentment could be taught I'd make it number one on a school curriculum...there is nothing wrong with working, having enough to live on with the odd luxury, a house with gas electric drinking water cooker sofa bed bath shower washer tv etc etc Go back a short time in history and mostly our ancestors would think we were royalty living how we do now.

This is one of the most depressing things I've ever watched. And just to think the Tories are still trying to crush Unions and keep people living on crumbs like this, it makes me sick to depths of my guts.

I remember my dad earning £30 a week to keep 6 of us and a mortgage he had to do extra jobs in the evening and weekends, I also remember him passing out on a job due to sheer exhaustion, trying to earn extra money for Christmas, even then it upset me and I've never forgotten it, he was an extremely hard working man, we didn't have what our friends had but we were brought up with good morals, good natural food, and clean clothes,my mother baked and made clothes ,they are fond memories. The working class are the backbone of this country...fine honest people.

What a find! I just tripped-up onto this. I was looking for this particular interview for years. I remerb it all and my mind was wide open on this day. 777 Netenyahu, and Mayor Juliané from New York 911 were in town giving their BS narrative. Juliané couldnt contain his glee! Saved for a rainy day 🤣

What a lovely man! Not bitter, hard working and such integrity! If only people today had the same work ethic and outlook on life. Jack and his generation had a tough life, and watching this made me realise how my mum and dad worked (survived). Great days and great people. All that said, the working conditions and reward were dreadful and jack and his peers deserve so much respect.

And these days we have not working class, but “benefits class” those that don’t work, don’t want to work, don’t expect to work….but still walk around with the latest iPhones and have money in their pockets. When I was growing up, the welfare state was a safety net to assist people through periods of hardship, now, for many, it’s a lifestyle choice. Shameful.

What city is this ? Looks very much like Sheffield but in the comments I think it’s not , and my Dad was very similar, we went to Bridlington every year and my dad saved up his work luncheon vouchers so we could use them to have meals out on holiday , he took bread and jam to work every day bless him . I didn’t realise the sacrifices he made until I was an adult . Too late , he died of a heart attack at at 65 , bang on retirement age.. he worked so hard from being 14, also military service and worked until he dropped dead and then when he needed an ambulance after paying in all those years ? It took so long he was beyond help when they arrived , I love you Dad :( so sorry to hear about similar story here and also Beverly who was only four years older than me .. sending my love and best wishes to the family of the walkers from the Hoeys <3

Having worked in Factories & I have great admiration for John Pilger ( I read Heroes) ! While in 2024 Fox tells lies & Jesse Watters isn’t a journalist just a liar for Murdochs mate Trump ( this week it’s the FBI we’re gonna assisinate Trump all lies ) but that’s 2024 ! Sad & Scary cause some Trump supporters believe this rubbish ( stolen elections etc ) & could decide to attack Biden ! It’s sick & sad & scary ! I’ve recently cancelled Foxtell as my protest !

The UNIONS let the workers down every bit as much as management. These are the two cheeks of the same arse. Those working conditions were atrocious. A clearly harmful and toxic environment, yet the unions did NOTHING other than "fight" for a 2p raise on the nightshift. PATHETIC

A pension is earned over a working lifetime and SHOULD NOT DIE WITH THE PERSON. It should be paid to the family for a period of at least 18 - 25 years afterwards.
