I think PWS have been in so many courses and have read so many books about stuttering that didn't work so they tend to be sceptical about your methods. Among auto-suggestions, reading aloud twice a day and mastering crutches I would add a fourth thing: be disciplined, do not give up, train every single day without fail. Each day that you skip traning is three steps back from fluent speech to stuttering. Not one, but three. I think our brains don't like to change and tend to get back to their "old" self quicker than they acquire new habits. Thank you, mister Lee, for your book and your youtube videos. I started using your methods two weeks ago and already see improvements. And thank you for your life advices. They saved me from depression. I'm from Russia and can't buy WSSA membership but I would gladly buy it if I had an opportunity to do so. P.s sorry for my bad English

John, you're so silly. I have given away 9,000 hours of coaching and have written eight books about this. I pay cash by covering WSSA's losses to coach for free. I USE MY OWN NAMNE (as do all of our PWS-students and our coaches), not a pseudonym as do you. YOU are the "actor" here!!! We have posted hundreds of stopped stuttering stories, and thousands of videos. We couldn't possibly "pay" hundreds -- for thousands of hours -- to "act". I used to stutter, A LOT! I haven't stuttered in 50 years. Dozens of our hundreds of REAL PWS who STOPPED stuttering have trained to coach/help others (for small fees, as many of them have bills to pay). Come to our SAM Meetings on Saturday's at 12 Noon NYC time and watch and here dozens more PWS talk about this openly. We HAVE beaten or are well on the way to beating it. Instead of making silly accusations, come join us and beat it, too. :)

I have stuttered since early childhood, and am now 71. When I was young, no one on this planet knew very much about how to treat stuttering (but speech therapists thought they did). So when I became an adult I had to figure it out, which I did. I still stutter, but much less than I once did. Here is what I have learned. If a person has stuttered since early childhood, and still does by 20, he will probably have developed beliefs and perceptions about himself, and emotions, because of his stuttering, that have become a greater problem for him than his stuttering is. Those may be low self-confidence, shame, low self-esteem, etc. All this will probably also have impaired his social development, which itself poses a host of problems. He may also have developed psychological disorders such as depression, social anxiety, PTSD, or personality disorder. If he has developed a psychological disorder, he MUST first get it adequately treated. That will probably require medication (e.g., Zoloft, Buspar, Paxil). After doing that, he needs to go down the following road: Accept yourself, and accept the fact that you stutter. Try to find a way to deal with "blocks" while speaking. There are stuttering self-help books that discuss this. Let go of the past, and begin a new life to the extent that is feasible. Read books on how to build self-esteem, and implement those steps in your life as feasible. Step out of your comfort zone. Make friends; you will be successful if you make the effort. Find an activity in which you directly help other people in some way. This will help you in more ways than even you will understand. I have “been down this road”. No bs.

Hey Lee, I have recently joined your program on a 1 week free trail. I feel like my stutter is a-bit different to some other people you coached… I am 22 and I just graduated. I would love to email you with all the details and you can give me a diagnosis or a reason that makes sense to me as it baffles me how my speech can get so much worse in a short period of time with little to know bad experiences in between. For example my amygdala now sees talking to strangers on the phone or picking up phone calls that are unexpected as a fight or flight response and it shuts down my body to a point where I cannot breathe properly or use any crutches/tools. In person to random strangers I am 97% fluent (like to class mates or whilst in public ordering food or asking for directions) In my first year and 2nd year of university I would say I didn’t even see myself as a stutter and it wasn’t playing in my mind at all throughout those years. I would pick up any phone call with minimal to no stuttering at all and I would engage in so much conversation as I loved speaking. It was at a point where my friends and even strangers would say I love to speak and I talk to much. I have had a stutter for since I was a child but in school I didn’t really stutter often (throughout school no one thought I was a stutter) it was only in my 3rd and fundal year of uni that it all came out like in one go or something. Friends I didn’t stutter with in person or on the phone would no hear me stutter and be confused as they never thought I had one. My stutter escalated to a point where it was, I would say, severe and reached a point where it would inhabit itself in speaking situations where I never used to stutter not even once. When applying for jobs, I used to love to call up and ask for vacancy or even book viewings with estate agents to organise next year rent for university accommodation. All that got destroyed. It reached a point where I couldn’t say more than “hello” on the phone then my body and brain shuts down where I cannot say anything. I have never needed crutches/tools when I was fluent and I found that trying to use what I was taught as a kid in speech therapy only made me think about my words more and stuttering more which made my stutter worse. Now I avoid phone calls from strangers as when I see a number I don’t recognise call me I get a small panic attack. With certain friends I stutter more than others and the level varies from slight to extreme where I stutter more often than I don’t. I understand stuttering is situational and it’s to do with neuro speech pathways but I don’t understand why in situations I should be calmest in (friends and family) I now stutter the worst in. It’s got to a point with my stepdad where I cannot even start a sentence and when he ask me a questions and I try respond instantly I can’t get any word out so I cannot answer him. Block has been the biggest part and also stopping mid sentence randomly and not being able to restart has been a huge problem and my main issue in speech fluency. I used to be able to call my mum and not stutter once and I loved talking to her and in general at the time ( this was from my first to early 3rd year of university, so from the age of 19-21) now I almost stutter with her as bad as I do with strangers and the fact I can only say hi to strangers on the phone says a lot. How has it escalated that much? I believe that a brain scan will help as one of my main stuttering problem is just pausing mid sentence from speaking fluently and sometimes I forgot what I was saying and my next word. I’m scared of phone calls and meeting and interview now after my last interview where is stuttered a bit due to my recent focus and anxiety related to my worsening of my speech. The hiring manager tried to call me and I didn’t pick up. I previously told her that my phone speaker was broken to avoid speaking to her on the phone as I knew exactly what was going to happen with me blocking after saying 1 word. My old self would have loved answering and would have actively forced a phone call, would have insisted to stay in touch through call and not coward away from it. She messaged saying to find anyone else with a phone to call her number as she had a lot to say about when I will start working (I got the job). I was then honest with her and told her the truth about why I don’t do phone calls with her and I explained the neuroscience behind it and told her that it’s situational and that’s the only issue I have as in the work place I’m fluent and had no issues in my other jobs I did at university (that being said, my speech was at a different level back then compared to its current state) I worked in the same job as the one she was about to hire me for as well. She clearly didn’t understand or believe when I told her it’s situational and I don’t stutter doing work and she replied saying that she apologises but I’m not suitable for the role. This broke me and I called my mum even though I knew I would stutter with her on the phone due to my emotions and how upset I was. In the last 2 weeks I’ve been reading out loud for 45 min per day and have been playing sleep type affirmations. I have been practicing the tools whilst I read too but my issue is when it comes to applying it in real life, I have noticed that every time I am speaking fluently and I try to use it, as I am told I have to, that’s when my stuttering comes out. I believe it’s because I’m think ing of what to say and how to say it and the fact I’m so focused about speaking and not stuttering when I say it it leads to stuttering and blocks I would love to hear your insight on my situation and how I can solve it. Can I reach my previous levels or are my disfluent speech pathways taken over my fluent ones that I have had for a while. Like last 2 year I was fluent to my friend in all situations with them and now I’m 70% stuttering and blocking really really badly. And with another fiend it’s the same. Now I wake up every day with automatic sunk feeling in my body and I don’t even have time to think about speaking and the feeling comes before the thought 😅. I feel like manifesting/ affirmations are having the opposite effect as my subconscious is resisting it and only taking in that I’m constantly thinking about my stutter. But I’m not an expert. I have come across you today and watched as many videos of therapy and you ideas. I found it to be very similar to the KZbinrs I have watched who have a very similar approach to you. I just don’t know why it’s not working for me. But it’s only been 2 weeks but my speech is getting worse than better. Can you please email me with your perspective as to what happened and tell me what I can do to get back to my previously fluent self. I’m going to start learning everything from your program from tomorrow but my worry is that my over thinking and over focus on stuttering and improving has made my speech worse due to anxiety I have which is far beyond what it ever was.

@NorthJerseyFooter
@NorthJerseyFooter Ай бұрын
Probably because you're reading alone and changing your voice. When you are doing voice overs, you are speaking in a different voice than your own and you don't have any stuttering memories using that voice that is probably why. Read lees book. It works. If you read Lee's book or any book for an hour a day out loud and hear yourself talk without stuttering, you will create positive memories where you do not stutter, doing that over and over again rewrites your brain memory.
