I am new to the hobby and have decided on N Scale. My layout is complete up to laying track. If rail joiners worked like you show in your video I would be running trains by now and I wouldn't have "hamburger" finger tips. I have used Atlas, Peco, and some off-brand types. All have the same thing in common: They won't slide onto the rail without extreme effort. I am an Avionics Tech so I know how to solder with no problem. That's assuming I can get the joiners on the rail. I made a tool of a spare piece of track by filing all edges down so I could force a joiner onto the rail. This widened the joiner so I could then put them on the rail to solder. Even doing it that way was a pain. It takes a good thirty minutes to attach two pieces of flex track. BTW I am using Code 55 Peco flex track. Any thoughts? Am I the only guy that has this problem?

Kalmbach just sold all their media and is closing down. Firecrown Media bought most (if not all?) including Trains. I have heard that Firecrown will be an on-line format only but hope not.

I WANT to see cameras in the cabs - I want to see/view what the engineer would see from a cab (on my cell or from a table/computer) - there is the technology for this - come on designers - let's move the hobby forward.

I have been pondering what to get into this hobby with the the grand son. I have after months of research decided I want the bachman nickle silver EZ track and I want to Athearn trains. They are better than Bachman.it appears. Am I wrong? As long as I'm using this track I can run DCC or what evr I want on it. Eventually I will get into DCC. Right now I just need a starter set and then I'll by another starter set with DCC controller. Likely a Bachman set but I will se what the pricing is like for the Athearn is first

these are almost an EXACT copy of Marklin's "My World" sets, nearly everything about them is the same except the controller is slightly different and the track in the My World set is better (steel rails, basically the same as "adult" Marklin C track). I wouldn't be surprised if Atlas cooperated with whoever makes the Marklin products

Kevin, you are absolutely correct about the EBT. I have been visiting since 1972 were I attended the "Winter Spectacular" were they ran a triple headed freight in 6 degree temperatures and deep snow. I was hooked on the railroad since then. Due to that I have seen the rise and fall of the operations mostly with a heavy heart. It is very exciting to see just how well the railroad has been resurrected. I have always told people once you drive off the main road you take a step back in time. The Friend's of the EBT have been a godsend to the preservation. Without them I believe as you said the buildings would have collapsed and most likely this preservation may not have been possible. Thanks for the video! Take care.

I'm very pleased to see some 1:29 scale trains. Is Bachmann affiliated with USA Trains now? That would be great. BTW, I convert all my rolling stock to body-mounted Kadees. Are these new Bachmann 1:29 scale trains set up for easy conversion? That would be great, too. Thanks.

I have a lot of foam to cut and shape into scenery pieces, So, I was wondering, I have some Home Brown Latex paint, Could I mix that paint with a white glue, say PVA type to paint my scenery pieces the base coat and have it seal it also, so the next few colors won't soak into the foam so much, Also, can you paint Acrylic ontop of home Latex paint, with no issues of deforming details in the foam?

Cody is using Atlas brand rail joiners in this video. They are probably the easiest HO rail joiners to apply to either to either code 83 or code 100 track/rail. Some other rail joiners, Micro Engineering in particular, are a little more difficult to apply. You can loosen those rail joiners by building a tool to spread open the rail joiner just a little bit before inserting the rail. To do this, cut a length of rail long enough for you to get a solid hold on. File the rail web at one end to get a chisel point on the base of the rail on both sides of the main vertical rail piece. You might want to sink the 'handle' end of this tool into a wooden dowel to make it easier to hold. On an individual rail joiner, slide this rail into it first. It helps to have a piece of wood to push the joiner against so it will slide on. Once it slides on, pull the joiner off and it will slide on the rail easier. The only advantage to this tool is that it allows you to do the difficult pushing away from the existing track work eliminating damage to the track. Also, if you cut rail for fitting, clean up teh cut edge with a file to eliminate any burr left behind by the cutters.

I like the videos, but boy the website sucks. It is soooo difficult keeping track of when new videos come out, or which ones you’ve seen. One simple thing they could do is put a date stamp of the release date on the thumbnail for each video. At the moment you have to go into the individual video page and look at the description to find out when the video was published. And navigation is generally very difficult.

3:46 The sounds the toy Amtrak Acela train makes are exactly the real horn and bell sounds real Amtrak trains make. The horn sound is a hybrid K5LA horn (#3 bell in place of #3A bell) and the bell sound is a Graham White 373 Series electronic bell.

Great video. Is the tubular track compatible with vintage Lionel track? I ask because my local hardware store/train shop was telling me the tooling for old style tubular track is wearing out and Lionel will not be producing it in the future - which disappointed me, as I run mostly vintage trains on vintage track. Thanks!
