The fact that God created some of over 1500 animal species gay is now proven. Why did God make such a huge mistake? It is also medically proven that some people are born gay. The entire medical profession declassified homosexuality as an illness 49 years ago. 2023 will be 50 years. God created me gay and I am very proud of it. A 51 year marriage to my wife did not change a thing. She had MS for 26 years and unable to ambulate for the last 15 years. She has now passed. Being gay is NOT a sin.

Skin colour is also a spectrum. I suppose Yuan would suggest we shouldn't say we are black or white because techincally those labels don't help, we are all just shades of brown?? I get what he's saying and sexuality is a spectrum. Most people fit nicely it seems within the two sides generally. But just because it's a spectrum (like skin colour) doesn't mean it's inaccurate to say "I'm straight" --- can we PLEASE just be honest with reality in this one and say for the majority of straight people in the world, it's not helpful to conceive of yourself as someone who is fluidly on a spectrum so therefore they can't define themselves as "straight" -- like, for most people, it is most accurate and helpful just to say they are straight. That's not going to change. The same is for gay and bi people. Also, when this guy says "I have opposite sex attraction feelings and it doesn't make being a Christian any easier" -- and then they laugh. Firstly, when this guy says this it just shows that he doesn't really understand what he's talking about. Of COURSE it makes being a Christian easier. This is undeniable. Why is this, because yes you have to say not to lust and sexual activity that is sinful, but as a straight Christian, you have the permission and space (and celebration) to turn those feelings into something life-giving that your heart craves: companionship, sexual love expressed in a healthy way, family, romantic love, etc. You have a giant YES for your sexuality, one that is celebrated. It's not easy. There's still temptation. Of course you say no to things, but get to say YES to something: marriage and love and companionship. Christians with same sex attraction don't get to have this YES. They never get any space or permission to actually wisely steward their sexuality in a way that might bring life. They have to kill their sexuality and desire for love for the rest of their lives ... and they will die alone. Please please please, straight Christians, don't say that the plight is equal. Does being straight make it easier to be a Christian. 10000% yes. "we all need to die to self" as Yuan says. This is true. But for the straight Christian, they die to their lust but also get marriage and companionship and romantic love, for the gay Christian, they die to their lust and love and sexuality and there's nothing afterwards. It just ends there. Death.

The "New Compassion" ruse by evangelicals to try to not seem hateful ....despite all their "love" and "understanding"....ALWAYS eventually becomes "Yes, you can be gay and be a Christian...as long as you remain celibate, never even masturbate to homosexual fantasies or desires, and pray every day to God to 'cure' you and make you straight." Every time. And this is usually just the preachers...the rank-and-file evangelicals still call gays "sodomites" and gleefully explain how they're going to roast in Hell for their "unnatural desires".

So, a turning point in my life as a gay Christian came when I realised that being born this way or not, has no consequence - born AGAIN, has consequences. I don't believe in 'conversion therapy' or the 'ex-gay' groups, but that's a matter of opinion. Rather, what I have started (this is a new journey for me) to find, is that there is an immense challenge, but also a reward to be found in celibacy. I know this isn't a solution for everyone, and for those who can't take it on, there is a different journey to divinity for them - but all things are possible, ALL things, not some things. Part of the problem with some Christians is their incessant need to just 'throw scripture' at people as if it's a magic spell from a Harry Potter book. Scripture without love, respect, context or compassion - is just words. If yours is not to minister to an LGBT person - then don't, but you could be the link to someone who can. LGBT people feel as natural and normal being themselves as anyone else does feeling themselves. I focus now (try to, I'm a work in progress) on my identity in Christ and THAT is the identity I want to know more about - who is THAT guy. So if anyone is battling with this, just remember that - keep your eyes, your heart and your prayers focused on Christ, not the world. What your 'label' is - really doesn't matter. Ok the Bible says homosexual will not inherit the kingdom of God.... the definition of homosexual is the sexual attraction to one's own sex..... it doesn't say the definition is having sex wth one's own sex....... so you cannot identify with being gay and inherit the kingdom of God......

49:36 Mr. Yuan ends up going back to that "gay or straight" secular vocabulary. I think the premises behind the secular words are untrue. I think the term "beloved child of God" is a better characterization from Christ's perspective. The word "Gay" , as it is used today is only 50 years old and was used to indicate that people were categorically happy with living out their desires. I do not believe anyone is categorically happy.... by definition; the word is akin to happenstance meaning temporal and fleeting. The words heterosexuality and homosexuality are about 150 years old and arose out of an attempt to scientifically understand human behavior. These scientific terms try to define something which could hardly be categorized so simply, and it makes people into an object to be studied. We are not objects, we are subjects of our King, Jesus himself. I really loved Mr. Yuan's discussion, but I think he would do better by simply avoiding terms which may seem benign, but are actually antithetical to a Christian ethos. We really need to talk like Christians, and speak the words of eternal life. Jesus is Lord -let his words be our own.

Why does membership in a church dictate our identity? To say that I am not gay; I am not straight; I am a follower of Jesus Christ: is actually just "sucking up" to homophobic Christian denominations that have the wrong concepts about gay people. Who needs to broadcast their church membership? Meanwhile, Jesus has told us that "saying is not doing." If you are homophobic, you are not a true Christian and are not living Christ's acceptance of all peoples. It is the Pharisee who parades his membership in a particular church in front of other Christians and we know what Jesus thought of Pharisees. Dr. Yuan, you are a Pharisee. I would have thought that you were intellectual enough to figure out the fact that many denominations are homophobic. To say that "I am not gay. I am not straight. I am a follower of Christ." is to play into the homophobia that is out there. You are "sucking up" to unChristlike people and in the process you are betraying what you really know about being gay.

My friend group is expanding to include beautiful, lovely image bearers of God who have mistaken their homosexual desires for who they are, and I try to speak only Jesus and his love for them, and so this is a gold mine of heavenly wisdom.
