Rocky Lin has nothing to be ashamed, he did not lost with one of the bunch. He lost with the very best.

One of the funniest statements I ever heard a boxing commentator make was Reg Gutteridge’s exclamation during Danny McAlinden’s mauling of Jack Bodell: “He can’t miss….that lantern jaw…”

Joe wasn’t hopeless how did he do 15 rounds twice with Ali and once with Frazier
I think the knockdowns could have easily been deemed pushes.

0:54 Why didn't Cooper just go ahead and fight Ellis anyway? In the unlikely event that Cooper won, he would be the WBA champion, regardless of what the BBBC thought.

I haven't seen the whole fight but the referee scored this in Bodell's favour by *FOURTEEN ROUNDS TO ONE!!!!* Is that really a fair reflection of the fight?
@ppuh6tfrz6463 ай бұрын
With the scoring of 5 points to the winner of a round and 4¾ points to the loser, Gibbs would have scored it six rounds to Bugner, five to Cooper and four even. I scored this to Cooper by a couple of rounds.

Cooper was blatantly robbed. I thought so at the time. I think so now. Not one of Harry Gibbs' greatest nights. Bugner was always a robotic, pre-fabricated fighter, and it showed. He was brave, (except against Bodell), and he had a good chin. But God he was frustrating and boring to watch.
@COBBETT12155 ай бұрын
Bugner was basically a track and field athlete. A discuss thrower. He never had an ounce of fighters instinct in him. He was brave and he had a good chin. But he always fought as if he hated it. His punches were snatched, with no weight behind them. His only great moment was when he stunned a post Foreman Joe Frazier very briefly, with a punch that accidentally had some weight behind it , thrown in desperation because Joe's relentless pressure was forcing Bugner to really fight back hard, probably for the first time in his career.

Joe Bugner was truly hopeless. He looked like a Greco Roman statue and he fought like a statue . He stood there in that ludicrous stance. His arms in a stiff tight guard, jiggling his gloves up and down in a totally meaningless way. He was a totally manufactured fighter and it showed. Poor Jack. After bullying the title away from Bugner he was briefly popular with the fans, but mere months later he thought it was time to strut the world stage so he took on Jerry Quarry. Big mistake. He was flattened in one round and exited the ring with the jeers of the crowd ringing in his ears.

Bugner was a good fighter. He was only 21 at the time but this was one of the worst nights of his career.

For what ever reason Joe did not like Richard. An example of what Bugner could have achieved if he fought every fight like this. Joe Bugner was an elite fighter, just did not put maximum effort into every fight.
